Years of weather and road conditions exposure (especially in Australia) can leave some marks on our beloved machines.

Fortunately, there are ways to bring back the shine.

This front wheel from Suzuki GSX650F 2009 was showing signs of aluminum oxidation and peeling paint.

Affected surfaces were removed to the bare alloy cast, primed and painted to match factory finish.

And a dash of chili to finish it up...šŸ”„

The side cowlings of GSX650F showed signs of previous paint repairs. In order to bring them back to the original state they would require lots of preparation work, fresh paint and new decals, but then it would be just another factory GSX650F...
At that point the decision was made to give the bike a fresh modern look.
The GSX650F were coming in 3 different versions: naked, "half-naked" and full fairing (this case). Naked and "half-naked" models had small covers on both sides of the radiator, but they weren't good looking. However thanks to that, the radiator had two threaded mounts on each side that made a perfect use for custom covers.
To find out the right shaped, piece of carboard was used. Try on, cut a bit more from the front, try on, cut a bit more from the top, try on, give it a little bit of radius here and there. After doing that for number of times the final shape appeared satisfying.
From there the template was scanned and converted in to a vector file, which allowed to laser cut it out of 3mm thick aluminum sheet.
One fold and the pieces were ready.
There was an idea of painting it the same color as the bike, but the vision for it was to stand out, so 3D carbon fiber wrap with protective clear coat was used.
How do you like the result? šŸ™‚

As mentioned before, the tail of GSX650F wasn't in original color.

Underneath ugly black paint, I found some red, before I have finally got to the base of it. Couple of hours, a few hundreds ml of acetone and it was ready for primer.

Matched beautiful metallic blue paint and finished it with layer of clear coat.

After a bit of polishing, the result is pretty satisfying šŸ˜

Finding out that the fuel tank was still in original condition got me very excited.

Now is the time to check what's underneath the layers of spray paint on the other parts.

Result:
- front fairing and front fender - original blue metallic (yay!)
- tail - previously sanded and painted - need to respray
- side covers - previously sanded through - could be resprayed, but...

To be continued... ;)

As I've mentioned before, this poor baby got stolen and then amateurly painted red and later on black on top of it.

My first question was : What is underneath that ugly layers of paint?

The most crucial part of motorcycle, if we are talking about paint job, is usually a fuel tank. Cost of a new one would turn the whole project upside down. On the other side, respray is usually possible, but may be difficult because of non-flat shape and a few different layers of paint plus very often decals as well...

In order to rub thru criminal layers I've used acetone and slowly this stunning original metallic blue started to amuse my eyes. What a bonus!
