Ollera Creek Eco Retreat

Ollera Creek Eco Retreat Pristine, leafy waterfront nature escape with eco/family friendly secluded sites for bush campers :)

A beautiful piece of pristine nature where creek runs through to beach. Escape, unwind and feel a world away while only being 45 mins north of all the camping resources you could need in Townsville. Ollera Creek Eco Retreat is situated on 6000 acres of private, coastal bush property on the Bruce Highway just south of Mutarnee. We are a small & sustainable working cattle property at the foothills o

f Paluma & Mt Spec. Our camping areas are nestled alongside creek or beach with shady trees and providing beautiful sounds of nature in the mornings & evenings. We offer limited sites varying in size in order to provide a quiet camping experience with lots of space. We have about 40 sites to choose from that cater for couples, families, small & larger groups. Our Creekside sites are accessible by 2WD vehicles with enough room for vans. Our beachside sites are only accessible by 4WD, campertrailers & tents. Please see our site locations & descriptions to determine what best suits your circumstances. Enjoy some wildlife watching, including kangaroos, birds, lizards and if you’re astute enough perhaps catch a glimpse of the endangered Mahogony Glider that famously resides here. During nesting season you might be lucky enough to witness baby turtles making a dash across the sand for their first voyage into the sea! Have a dip & cool off upstream in Ollera Creek which meanders through the property but beware of our prehistoric friend, the saltwater crocodile that inhabits our beaches & estuary (where we also happen to have some great fishing)! Chill out with our cows, dig holes, fossick for rocks, shells or treasures the sea might bring. Bring a hammock and gaze at the clouds, treetops & butterflies frolicking about or sit back with a bevvie and gaze at the starlit skies in the glow of your campfire. Please talk to us about bringing your house pet too, they must be pre-approved but are welcome as long as they are restrained to your campsite, no hunting dogs allowed. There is a service station just down the road at Bluewater & if you don’t feel like cooking you can catch a great meal & vibe at the Rollingstone Hotel, just a few kilometres from our front gate (a courtesy bus can even be arranged!). Please have fun but respect your neighbours, our property suits family friendly, respectful campers who want peace and quiet (not those who wish to run amok). We are open for campers now & look forward to seeing you soon!

Our dear campers. We have a lot of work to do at Ollera following the floods & need to take some time to re-build, re-organise & lure our cattle in to give them some well-earned TLC. In order to give them the attention (& space) they deserve we have made the tough decision to close our camping while we do so. We are sincerely sorry for the disappointment & very grateful for your understanding 🌿

Well Nth QLD, it's been a month hasn't it!? I think what we all need now is to get ourselves outdoors, in the grass or sand, under a tree, by the creek or beach & just exhale & unwind... hit the reset button before we tackle what's next 🌿 We are a bit (extra) rustic atm but we have you covered & have re-opened for camping. ⛺️ We still have a lot of work to do over the next month cleaning up & repairing roads in time for Easter, but our creek is glorious atm & it would be a shame to waste it! There are a few sites that can’t be accessed due to fallen trees & debris but still plenty that are beautiful & perfect for camping (some even more so than before!). It was a phenomenal event, about a metre of sand & gravel has been dumped in some places, it’s amazing how it can change the landscape. The flooding has cleaned out a lot of scrub & tidied up a lot of our sites (that’s nice!) but then dumped it on others. It seems a few deep swimming holes have formed!? That could be cool 🙂 We think we have a few new sites as well! We look forward to seeing how things settle in. If this sounds just like your cup of tea right now then head up (or down) & have a look for yourselves! Send me a msg or email & I will get back to you as soon as I can.

We just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your messages & support. We are well thank you & are still trying to assess the damage! It was a phenomenal amount of water that came down our creek. Our horses are a little dishevelled but thankfully good, it will take some time yet to see how our cattle went. We hope the rest of our community are all safe, dry & have found somewhere with power. The community spirit & everybody's willingness to help each other is of course the positive during these experiences & that is something special to be a part of. Pls keep looking out for each other as times get tough down the track. I pinched some of these pictures (most of you would have seen) from other posts on facebook over the last week & took a few yesterday while we were there doing some fencing (as well as on Sat before the bridge collapsed!). Over the next few days we'll be able to get a look at our campsites! Thank you again & please take care of yourselves & each other.

We want to thank our beautiful & respectful community of people who have been enjoying our special place with the reverence it deserves. You have all been so wonderful to deal with & given us oodles of faith in humanity :) We've had a great year... apart from a few rain checks! Our wetter than usual year means the creek is still flowing & clear & hopefully for a few more weeks the weather remains cool!? We've been happy to welcome campers, old & new, to take advantage of our ideal conditions; escaping the stresses of reality & making lifelong memories. With school holidays around the corner there is no better time to get the kids out of the house, off their devices & reconnecting with nature for some resetting & re-earthing before last term! Email or PM me for more info incl maps & site descriptions. I can't believe it's September already!
