Att 79 series owners.
Does 79 feel like it wanders/bum wags/wheel wobbles on the road? Or just drives terribly and you donโt feel safe or canโt relax?
These are really common issues and there is many reasons it might be doing one or many of the above.
To try help out hereโs a bit of list of things we like to work through to help get yours driving right.
1. Castor. One of the most important factors, especially in lifted vehicles, ideally fixed by replacing the radius arms which are both length and castor compensated with quality bushings, but can be adjusted by castor correction bushes/plates.
2. Stance/ Ride height. If your vehicles not level at least or ideally running 25mm aprox of rake to the front it can make a huge difference to how your vehicle handles.
3. Tyre pressure. Especially in heavy loaded vehicles. Pay attention to the tyre placard on the car and your tyres temperatures after driving for prolonged periods, if they are really hot, usually it means too much side wall buldge creating heat, up your pressure.
4. Wheel alignment, wheel balence and associated fittings check. Once the castors set its important to get the toe set and steering wheel placement sorted, a good wheel aligner will also check the drag-link ends adjustment, tie rod ends for wear and wheel bearing adjustment.
5. Panhard rod bushes. Most live axle/coil setups run a Panhard rod. Soon as you have worn panhard rod bushes, here comes the death wobbles!
6. Steering dampers. Thereโs so many options out there. But we think we have found the ultimate. The Dobinsons remote res adjustable damper is unreal. We have just tested on multiple vehicles. Itโs been a game changer!
7. Shock absorbers. Selecting the right shocks for your vehicles application is very important. Most times one shock doesnโt fit all. If your budget allows it, adjustable shocks mean we can make it handle its best across all situations.
8. Tyre selection. Size, load rating and tread patterns all play a critical part on how your vehicle handles. I know itโs hard to beat the look of a big chunky mud tyre, but i can assure you they donโt make a car drive great. Weigh up the pros and cons before your next purchase.
If you have any questions, concerns or need help diagnosing your vehicles issues. Dont hesitate to give us a buzz or call in and we can help set you in the right direction once again. We have had customers at the point of considering selling their vehicles now happy with a cruiser thatโs better to drive once again ๐๐ป
