Here’s what was biting and where.
West Coast:
Salmon fishing along some of the surf beaches has been excellent this week. Salmon to 4Kg have been reported at Talia and Locks Well. Silver and Pilchard pattern metal lures or Salted Pilchard baits were the most successful.
Venus, Streaky and Elliston have all had some good bag limits of King George Whiting caught on Prawn or Cockle baits.
Squid numbers in Elliston are on the improve, but they are still a bit quiet in the other bays.
Garfish, Tommys, Snook and Silver Trevally have been reported in good numbers in Venus and Streaky, along with a few nice sized Blue Spot Flathead starting to appear.
Big Blue Swimmer Crabs have been caught from the Streaky Bay Jetty in good numbers.
Coffin Bay:
King George Whiting to 36cm have been caught in decent numbers inside Coffin Bay. Please remember that Coffin Bay and Farm Beach are within the Spencer Gulf fishery, so the bag limit for King George Whiting is still 5 per person, per day(Boat limit 15).
Snook, Gummy Sharks, Flathead, Salmon and a few small sized squid have all been reported in the bay. The best spots all seem to be close to town in the channels and around the Brothers.
Farm Beach has been good for King George Whiting to 38cm, Squid, Salmon, Silver Trevally, Garfish and Snook.
Offshore continues to be excellent for Nannygai to 55cm, Swallowtail, Queen Snapper, Gummy and School Sharks and a few other reef species.
Tuna reports are coming from everywhere out from Coffins. Best reports have been from Sir Isaacs to Reef Head and around Rocky and Greenly Islands.
Port Lincoln:
King George Whiting to 47cm have been caught in Proper Bay, Boston Bay and around the town Jetty in good numbers. Fresh Squid or prawn baits fished around the high tide until sunset have been the best times. Snook, Salmon, Tommys, Silver Trevally and Garfish have been reported around the bays and jetties as well.
Trumpeters have been a problem in a few areas this week. There is not much you can do other than move, or keep a few for crab bait.
Blue Swimmer Crabs continue to be caught in good numbers in all of the usual spots around the bays.
Squid have been on the smaller side this week, but there have been plenty caught on smaller, bright coloured jigs. The Town Jetty and Louth Bay have been the best spots.
The Yellowfin Whiting have gone quiet again, but should be back with the bigger tides around Easter.
Sleaford to Wanna has produced some good Salmon this week. Fish to 3.5Kg were caught on Salted Pilchards and Slingshot lures.
Offshore fishing has been good for Nannygai, Queen Snapper, Gummy Sharks and a few Tuna. Between Thistle and Williams Islands seems to be the better spot for catching reef species, Out towards Low Rocks and the Neptunes is where the Tuna have been found.
Tumby Bay:
King George Whiting to 50cm, Squid, Salmon, Snook to 80cm, and Flathead to 45cm were reported at the Group this week. The northern end seems to be fishing better than the southern end at the moment, but there are fish around most of the Islands.
The Tumby jetty has produced a few squid, King George Whiting and Tommys this week.
Port Neill:
King George Whiting to 44cm, Snook, Garfish and some nice Yellowfin Whiting were caught by boaties and shore based anglers late in the afternoons.
