Mitchell Tyre Centre - Happenings
We arrived in Mitchell in 1974, where Adrian began working as a Tyrefitter at the local Firestone Tyre Store. In 1978, the store closed and an offer to set up our own business in the same building soon followed. A while later, the offer to purchase the current building from Trevor Richards was agreed upon.
Initially, the store ran as an independent tyre store, where experiences with negotiating prices with wholesalers was learned. Whilst purchasing arrangements were made with multiple suppliers, another small group of three other independent tyre dealers formed a group called, Big Wheel. We were invited to join, and this was the beginning of many positive business relationships with wholesalers, essential to being successful.
As the group grew, the formation of Tyrepower, came to being. We joined and found this group to be very successful and helpful in negotiating wholesale pricing, insurances, suppliers, transport, etc. – much of what is needed to be a successful small operator. Hence, the name, Tyrepower Mitchell. Through Tyrepower, Adrian has developed long standing business connections, friends and earned mutual respect.
Throughout the past 48 years, our business has been built on a promise of ‘Customer Service’ first and foremost. We have expanded the business to have regular customers spread far and wide including areas of Morven, Charleville, Augathella, Tambo, Injune, etc, and areas to the south, north, east and west of Mitchell. Mitchell Tyre Centre has a policy of meeting the needs of customers in a timely manner, providing the best price that we can, being friendly and developing the deeper knowledge of our client’s needs. Adrian's knowledge of the tyre and battery industry is extensive and greatly valued. Relationships have been developed over the years with the many Reps that visit the store.
Over the course of those years, we have employed many workers who have been trained in all aspects of the business, ensuring they can assist with helping our clients. We have valued the loyalty, learnings and skill of our employees and appreciate their contributions to our successful business.
Throughout the years, Tyrepower Mitchell has won several awards in a variety of areas of the business. This is really not possible without our genuine investment in the Tyrepower Group. Adrian was acknowledged by the Maranoa Regional Council recently for his contribution through the business for over 40 years. It was an honour to have this recognition bestowed on him.
We were young and inexperienced at managing a business but were confident that we could develop a business, based on customer service, competitive pricing that would withstand the test of time. Within the first five years as owners, we welcomed our two daughters. We have ridden the highs and lows of owning a small business, made sacrifices but are very proud of the business success we have had. We are extremely proud of the business we have developed from nothing, the work ethic and values that we have applied to our business management.
We value the travellers who come through our doors to purchase stock, have repairs done and often stay for a chat. These are always friendly faces who support the local businesses.
While we are renowned for the friendly service to our clients, the loyalty shown to us as a business by our clients is something that we truly value and appreciate. We believe that we owe our success to the loyalty of our customers. We have strived to always price our products to be competitive and knowing our clients well ensures that we can get the stock that is required in a timely manner. To our customers, thank you, you are central to our success.
As with anything in life, there comes a time for change. With mixed emotions, we are pleased to advise that our business, Mitchell Tyre Centre, (Tyrepower Mitchell) will change hands on Wednesday the 1st July at 5:00pm. The new owners will commence trading on Thursday, the 2nd July at 8:00am. We wish the new owners all the best in their business venture and look forward to supporting them where possible. Adrian will be helping and advising the new owners for the month of July as they transition to ownership of a small business.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank the local community, our valued customers, employees, and friends for the loyalty, friendship and respect given to us over the past 48 years. We are not going far and will still be in town, but it is now an opportunity for us to spend more time with our family.
With grateful hearts from, Adrian and Robyn.
