The Recone Guy

The Recone Guy Welcome to The Recone Guy! Got a sub that doesn't do sub things? Maybe it has a rattle? Or maybe it's given out the magic smoke. Well, it can be replaced!!

Permanently closed.

Here, I recone speakers and subwoofers using aftermarket parts from PSI and from PAP as well as sourcing other various parts to meet the repair requirements for local bassheads and the wider community. Not only that, but the motor (magnet) and frame/basket/whatever you want to call it, can be changed as well and can even be turned into a Frankenwoofer (a Frankenwoofer is a sub that uses different

parts from different subs ie, Phoenix Gold Elite1 motor with a Ti basket (same as the Nakamichi NSX series) using a Sundown ZV4 style cone)
A basic recone kit using parts from PSI will start from around $300 for a single sub. Using parts from another supplier, still very good quality, a single recone kit would start around $200. The more you order, the cheaper it becomes in the sense that 2 PSI recones would be about $450 rather than $600)
Standard surrounds might not look all that flash, but are still capable of 3" of peak to peak travel from 10" to 15" cones, and 3.5" for 18" cones. Cones with tall surrounds (larger excursion but retains cone area) and fat surrounds (ZV4 style, not quite as much cone area as a standard cones) for those subs that really move ;)
2 layer carbon fiber cones only available for 15" subs.

Well, it's been a while since I've taken the reins of recones and repairs to do what very few people are doing in Aus, but never did I imagine stepping back into the game by jumping straight into it with one of the baddest subs out on the market today!
This Pride 18" monster suffered and unfortunate construction defect where the top spider became detached from the triple joint becaise of a failed bonding, and took out one of its coils in the process.
What looked like only one side of the leads snapping off turned out to be both coil wires breaking right inside the spider joints - 2nd worst spot to break.
Fortunately, it could be taken apart with minimal damage, both lead wires rejoined successfully and all put back together for another pounding!
Fingers crossed it doesn't crumble any more and continues to dish out daily hair tricks!

Burning up CA glue just to free up and get access to the coil wires is definitely not a fun process - IT STAAAAANKS! Not to mention, if it gets in your eyes (the smoke) it's irritating as hell 😣
How to repair after blowing the cone clean off?
Well, after 2 of the connections at the triple joint snapped the coil wire off as well, it's going to have to be put together "unconventionally" by residing right underneath where the cone meets the coil neck. Luckily this particular setup will allow me to do so, unlike some subs where the the spider is right underneath the cone joint.

Another day, another pair of DDs ready to bounce, if you know what I mean 😉
DD3518s of course!!
These two woofers feature triple linear roll spiders and double stitched lead wires, ready to make some noise off an 8kW power supply.

It feels good to be back doing what I love!

First recone job since getting back into it after some time off!
Pair of Digital Designs 3518s that have seen better days.
About 3 years ago IIRC, I repaired one of these by replacing a set of leads and the dustcap, and now they're back! But for different reasons this time around.

So, hi guys!
It's been a while since I've been active here, trying to sort things out for myself and get back on track I suppose.
Things are still rough I guess, but I've reached a point where I think I will be comfortable to start doing recone and repairs once again, so "hurrah" for that! ✌
That's all I wanted to let you peeps know.
So even though I want everyone to have working and functioning subs, let's get me some work to do once again!
First up on the bench is and "old, once-off" I did a little while ago, turning a Nakamichi NSX 12" into a dual V.C badass. Unfortunately the coil has decided it register a 1.2M ohm reading (yeah, in the millions) instead of living life as a happy D2 terror.
In a week or so it will be back to life and off to it's new owner to make loud noises! Compulsory pics will follow when it's finished 🤙

Hey guys, I've been meaning to make this post for some time now, and I've finally managed to decide to say this:
Over the time that I have been doing recones for people across Australia, and informing them of any information needed, I have also been under a lot of stress, which has forced me to put this venture to the side and focus on my struggle with my mental health which has been degrading for quite some time now.
Everybody I have dealt with us awesome, and I hope that the TRG edition recones are pounding hard and loving life.
From now, I wont be taking any orders until further notice.
Much love, that DiabetiK guy

Hi everyone!
After a month of initially having a long needed 2 week holiday, followed by 2 weeks of sickness and personal issues, we just want everyone to know that all current orders are getting smashed out ASAP and delivered at the first possible moment.
It had been very slow over the last 3 months with manufacturing/parts errors, and being sick was another delay to add to the list.
But rest assured, everything is back on track.

Hey guys, for the next 5 days I will be away on a much needed holiday, so any messages I receive in that time will be attended to as soon as I return to society.

Much love, TRG
