Driving after dark can feel very different from daytime driving. Reduced visibility, headlight glare, pedestrians, cyclists, wildlife and fatigue can all make hazards harder to identify early.

𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗜𝗣𝗦
✅ Make sure your headlights and other lights are working
✅ Keep your windscreen and mirrors clean
✅ Drive at a safe speed for the visibility and conditions
✅ Allow extra following distance
✅ Scan ahead for pedestrians, cyclists, animals and changing traffic
✅ Use high beam appropriately and dip it for other road users
✅ Slow down when approaching dark bends or poorly lit areas
✅ Don't treat the speed limit as a target when visibility is poor
✅ Never continue driving when you're too tired to drive safely

𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥:
𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 → 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗘 → 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 → 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦
Night-driving practice can help learner drivers build better observation, hazard awareness and confidence before driving independently.

𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗢𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗔 – 𝗔 𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦

Are you following the vehicle in front too closely?
Keeping a safe following distance gives you more time to see hazards, react and stop safely — an essential skill for every learner driver.

⏱️ 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝟯-𝗦𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗 𝗥𝗨𝗟𝗘
Choose a fixed object beside the road. When the vehicle ahead passes it, start counting:
👉 1,001 → 1,002 → 1,003
If you reach the same point before three seconds have passed, increase your following distance.

You may need even more space when:
🌧️ Roads are wet or slippery
🌙 Driving at night or in poor visibility
🚚 Following a large vehicle
🚧 Road or traffic conditions are difficult
🚗 Another vehicle moves into your safety gap
💡 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗜𝗣: If someone is tailgating you, don't feel pressured to speed up. Stay calm, drive safely and maintain enough space ahead to react smoothly.

Remember:
👉 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗘 = 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 → 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 = 𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 → 𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 = 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗖𝗛 𝗕𝗨𝗦𝗬 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘𝗟𝗬 𝗔𝗦 𝗔 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥

Busy intersections can feel overwhelming when you’re learning to drive — especially when you need to watch traffic lights, turning vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, lane markings and safe gaps all at once.

A simple routine can help:
👉 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 → 𝗦𝗟𝗢𝗪 → 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 → 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗔𝗟 → 𝗢𝗕𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘 → 𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗪𝗔𝗬 → 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗗𝗘 → 𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘 → 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗖𝗞

Common mistakes to avoid:
❌ Approaching too fast
❌ Looking only one way
❌ Rolling through Stop signs
❌ Taking unsafe gaps
❌ Waiting too long when a safe gap is available
❌ Missing pedestrians or cyclists
❌ Entering a blocked intersection
❌ Rushing a yellow light
❌ Making late lane changes
❌ Letting traffic behind pressure you

💡 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥: A safe intersection decision starts with good observation and understanding who you must give way to.
For learner drivers, the goal is not to rush through the intersection — it is to make the safe decision at the right time.
