Judy Kutschki has owned Mataranka Store for 50 years today!!
Originally opened in the late 1930s by Mr Charlie On, the store began as a small tin shop serving locals and travellers passing through.
Over the years it changed hands a few times before Judy and Peter Kutschki purchased the store in 1976, beginning what would become nearly five decades of dedication to the town.
In 1987 the shop was expanded, growing from its original small building into the store many people remember today. Throughout the years it has been much more than just a shop — it has also served as the local post office and even provided Centrelink services for the community.
For generations of locals and visitors alike, the Mataranka Store has been a place to stop, catch up, and find a friendly face behind the counter.
Fifty years of running a small community store is no small achievement, and it stands as a testament to the hard work, commitment, and community spirit that Judy has shown over the decades.
Most importantly, none of it would have been possible without the continued support of the local community. Thank you to everyone who has walked through the doors, shared a yarn, and helped make the Mataranka Store such a special part of the town for so many years.
