14/09/26 UPDATE: repairs and protective stabilisation works have been scheduled for the period 21-27 September 2026, for the Roper Bar ramp and No.1 Landing ramp at Port Roper. Both ramps will remain open with slight delays while launching and retrieving.
Boat ramps and access roads are essential infrastructure that connect Territorians and visitors with great fishing experiences β supporting the Territory Lifestyle and delivering important social and economic benefits to regional communities.
AFANT regularly hears from members about maintenance and repair needs at fishing access points across the NT, and we raise these issues with the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure.
After following up issues at Big Horse Creek on the Victoria River, as well as at Roper Bar and Port Roper, weβve now been advised that repair works are being planned at all three locations.

Works are expected in the last week of September and will include:
- Additional rock installed at the toe of the ramp; and
- A new bump-stop strip to alert drivers when reversing close to the bottom of the ramp.
The ramp is expected to be closed for a couple of days while this work is carried out. Further details will be provided by the Department.

The boat ramp has significant damage at the toe of the ramp. The Department is currently working through scheduling and access with a contractor, with repairs expected to occur in October.

Works are also planned to address undermining of the boat ramp and grading of the approach road. These works are expected in October, with contractor scheduling and access arrangements currently being worked through.
