🛞 When Did You Last Check Your Tyre Pressures?

Keeping an eye on your tyre pressures is SO important — and checking them once a year definitely isn't enough!

Did you know tyres can naturally lose around 1–2 PSI of pressure each month?

It might not sound like much, but incorrect tyre pressure can affect how your tyre contacts and distributes its load across the road.

Too low: The tyre can flex more, generate extra heat, wear more heavily through the shoulders and increase rolling resistance — which can also mean using more fuel.

Too high: The centre of the tread can carry more of the load, contributing to uneven wear and affecting handling and grip.

Just right: Running the pressure recommended by your vehicle manufacturer helps your tyres perform as intended, promoting even wear, good handling and better fuel efficiency.

And remember — you can't always tell a tyre is underinflated just by looking at it! 👀

🔧 The Cherry Pit Crew Tip:
Check your tyre pressures at least once a month and before longer trips, preferably when the tyres are cold.

And don't just guess the PSI! Check the tyre placard on your vehicle — usually around the driver's door area — or your owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommended pressure.

⚠️ Don't use the maximum pressure printed on the tyre sidewall as your vehicle's recommended pressure.

A few minutes checking your tyres can help with:

When we took over Cherry’s Automotive Repairs, we knew how important word of mouth and our loyal customers were and they still are the heart of our business.

But seeing just how far our online presence has come is something we’re pretty proud of too!

And an even bigger thank you to YOU every review, recommendation, share, booking and person who tells their mate, “Go see the Cherry Pit Crew” has helped us get here.

We might rank #1 on Google, but having the trust of our local community will always mean the most to us. ❤️

⛽ Running on Empty? Why You Shouldn’t Make a Habit of It

We’ve all done it… the fuel light comes on and suddenly it becomes a game of “How far can I REALLY go?” 😂

While occasionally running low isn’t likely to hurt your car, constantly driving around on fumes isn’t a great habit.

One of the biggest reasons is your fuel pump. In many vehicles, the electric fuel pump sits inside the fuel tank, where the surrounding fuel helps keep it cool. Regularly running the tank extremely low can mean the pump operates hotter, which may contribute to premature wear over time.

Then there’s the stuff sitting in your fuel tank. Small amounts of water or contaminants can accumulate over the years. Your fuel system is designed with filters to deal with contaminants, but repeatedly running extremely low certainly isn’t doing the system any favours.

And, of course, there's the most obvious problem...

🚨 You might actually run out!

Apart from leaving you stranded, some modern vehicles can be a little more troublesome to get going again after being completely run dry — particularly diesels.

Our advice? You don't need to panic the second the gauge drops below half, but don't make driving around with the fuel light glowing part of your normal routine either.

⛽ A quarter of a tank is a much nicer place to be than crossing your fingers on EMPTY! 😂

Look after your car and it'll look after you.

When Was the Last Time You Checked Your Spare Tyre?

Be honest… do you even know what condition yours is in? 😬

Your spare tyre might sit untouched for years, but when you finally need it, you REALLY need it.

A spare tyre can lose pressure over time just like the tyres you drive on — and age, cracking or deterioration can make it unsafe to use even if the tread still looks brand new.

Next time you're checking your car, don't forget the one hiding in the boot!

🔧 Check your spare for:
• Correct tyre pressure
• Cracks, damage or deterioration
• Tyre age and overall condition
• Enough tread
• A working jack
• Wheel brace and any other tools needed to change it

And here's another one people get caught out by — if your wheels have locking wheel nuts, make sure you know where the key is! 🔑

There's nothing worse than getting a flat, pulling out the spare… and discovering it's flat too, the jack is missing, or you can't get the wheel off. 🤦‍♀️

At Cherry's Automotive Repairs, your tyres and spare are just some of the things we keep an eye on when your vehicle is in for its regular maintenance.

🛞❄️ Tyres Are Your Only Contact With the Road – Are Yours Winter Ready? ❄️🛞

Your tyres are the only part of your vehicle that actually touches the road. In winter, when mornings are colder and roads can be wet or slippery, they're more important than ever.

Here are a few things to check:

🛞 Tread Depth
Good tread helps your tyres grip the road and clear water, reducing the risk of aquaplaning.

💨 Tyre Pressure
Cold weather can cause tyre pressures to drop. Driving on under-inflated tyres can affect handling, increase fuel consumption, and cause uneven wear.

⚠️ Uneven Wear
If one tyre is wearing faster than the others, it could indicate a suspension or steering issue that should be checked.

📅 Tyre Age
Even if they still have tread, older tyres can harden over time, reducing grip—especially in wet conditions.

💡 Cherry-Picked Tip:
Take two minutes this week to check your tyres. It could make all the difference when you need to brake suddenly or avoid a hazard on a wet road.

At Cherry's Automotive Repairs, we supply, fit and balance quality tyres, and we're always happy to inspect your current tyres and give honest advice on whether they're still safe.

❄️🚙 4WD? Don't Forget to Service It This Winter! 🚙❄️

Winter is the perfect time to hitch up the caravan, explore the bush, head to the snow, or tackle your favourite camping spot.

But before you point the bonnet towards your next adventure, make sure your 4WD is ready for it.

Here's what we recommend checking:

🛢️ Engine oil & filters – Fresh oil keeps everything protected, especially when towing or travelling long distances.

🔋 Battery health – Cold mornings and older batteries aren't a great combination.

🛞 Tyres – Check tread depth, pressures and don't forget your spare!

💧 Cooling system – Your engine still needs proper cooling, even in winter.

🚙 4WD system – When was the last time you actually engaged 4H or 4L? Regular use helps keep everything working properly.

🛠️ Brakes & suspension – Especially important if you're towing a caravan, camper or trailer.

💡 Cherry-Picked Tip:
Even if you only use your 4WD for weekend trips, it still needs regular servicing. We recommend servicing every 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first, to keep it reliable and ready for your next adventure.

Whether it's a work ute, family 4WD or your dedicated touring rig, we'll help make sure it's ready to go wherever the road (or track) takes you.

⏰🚗 How Often Should You Really Service Your Car? Time vs Kilometres Explained 🚗⏰

"But I haven't driven 10,000 km yet!"

It's one of the most common things we hear... but servicing isn't just about kilometres.

At Cherry's Automotive Repairs, we recommend servicing your vehicle every 10,000 km or every 6 months — whichever comes first.

Here's why:

🛢️ Engine oil deteriorates over time
Even if your car spends most of its time in the driveway, oil naturally breaks down and becomes less effective at protecting your engine.

💧 Short trips can be harder on your engine
Frequent short drives don't always allow the engine to reach full operating temperature, which can lead to moisture and sludge build-up.

🔋 Regular checks help prevent breakdowns
A routine service lets us inspect your battery, brakes, tyres, belts, hoses and fluids before a small issue becomes an expensive repair.

💰 It's cheaper to maintain than repair
Preventative maintenance almost always costs less than fixing damage caused by missed servicing.

🚗 Still under warranty?
We'll service your vehicle to the manufacturer's requirements while helping you stay on top of your maintenance schedule.

💡 Cherry-Picked Tip:
Think of servicing like a regular health check for your car. It keeps everything running smoothly, safely, and reliably—whether you've driven 2,000 km or 10,000 km.
