Scribbing her date of birth 1961, she openly devolged her reason for her stagnation with driving.
She lost her focus and confidence after her son’s su***de some 13 years ago.
She now wants to return to living and independence.
With a smile and bubbling with excitement she presented for her lesson. ….And so I began to deliver.
Little did we both know the biggest lesson on focus and awareness was about to present.
Driving through our green lights I slammed to a complete stop mid traverse.
Seconds from being side swiped by a vehicle running a red light travelling at 60km per hour.
Of all people this situation had to present was to this fragile student was my fleeting thought.
So I turned it into a potent learning as she started to crumble “Do I look scared or shaken or nervous about driving and what just happened? And I am on the roads 6 days a week sitting next to people who don’t have developed driving skills.
What I am teaching you is that with focus, reading, awareness and knowing the road rules you keep yourself safe on the roads. No matter what presents.
You trust yourself.
She was soothed by my logic and settlement in my voice. She came alive and a freedom felt that she had long time forgotten returned.
She booked her next lesson as she proclaimed she will get her driving licence no matter what.
