It was our last lesson before her driving test on Tuesday.“My 17th birthday is on the Monday, but they don’t do driving tests on Monday in Bowen.”
It spiked a childhood TV beer commercial memory. A memory that long ago that most parents would have been too young to have seen it.
A smartly dressed man in a suit, holding a briefcase traveling on a Queensland country train.
Curious the conductor asked where he was going?
To a job interview in Bowen. Today. Monday.
The conductor as informant stated. “This train doesn’t stop at Bowen on Mondays.”
Before panic set on the passenger’s face, he continued. “I’ll speak with the train driver. Slow the train enough for you to step off.”
The train slowed at the Bowen platform.
The passenger stepped off.
A sigh of relief and tension released in his shoulders.
He made it!
But very short lived. By the scruff of his neck he found himself hoisted back on the train by a passenger on the last carriage.
The beer drinking carriage. “Mate!!!…the train doesn’t stop at Bowen on Mondays.”
I said to my student “ Doesn’t matter where you test….
Quality of focus and awareness is how you pass. Read and respond.”
Don’t be grabbed. Or you will end up back on the gravy train.
