Northern Motorcycle Riders Association of Tasmania (inc) Club History The Tasmanian MRA was formed in 1980. In 2007, the MRA was restructured into three autonomous groups (Northwest, North and South).

Its original purpose was to confront the Tasmanian Government and the Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB) over rapidly increasing insurance premiums. This three year battle was won in 1983 when the government agreed to peg motorcycle premiums to the same level as cars. The MRA was responsible during this time for lobbying for and helping to set up the Tasmanian Motorcycle Rider Training Scheme, which operated from 1981 until 1998, when the government withdrew funding and handed the scheme over to a private provider to operate. Since 1980 the MRA has organised and run the annual Toy Run, which raises huge amounts of toys, gifts and money for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. Commencing in 1981 the MRA has organised and run the annual TasRally, which is the biggest and best biker party held in Tasmania. Introduced in 1984, the MRA conducts the annual Motorcycle Awareness Ride through Launceston to highlight the need for the public to be more aware of the many motorcycle riders on our roads. These three groups work autonomously, coming together to host the larger events such as Tas Rally. Northern Motorcycle Riders Association representatives continue to lobby for changes to legislation affecting motorcyclists in this state. After more than 14 continuous years as President of Northern MRA Danny Penney has put his hand up to (hopefully) become a councillor with West Tamar Council. For any of our followers who live in the West Tamar Electorate, please jump on and follow Danny Penney for West Tamar Council . Danny has been an active advocate for safer roads for all Tasmanian motorcyclists for many years, taking part in formal Road Audits and training as stated in the post below. We encourage you to follow his page and share his posts amongst your networks to ensure the motorcyclists of the West Tamar are not only represented but also heard. Safer local roads. Practical action. A stronger voice for West Tamar.

Safer motorcycle roads mean safer roads for everyone.
Road safety is not just an election issue for me — it is something I have actively worked on and advocated for across Tasmania for many years.

As the long-serving and current President of the Northern Motorcycle Riders Association of Tasmania and Treasurer of the Tasmanian Motorcycle Council, I have taken part in multiple road safety audits on high-risk Tasmanian roads. Working alongside experienced riders, Tasmania Police, State Government representatives and local councils where relevant, these audits help identify practical improvements such as better signage, clearer warning markers, safer corner treatments and improved road verges.

I have also completed road safety training with Safe System Solutions from Victoria, strengthening my understanding of the practical changes that can make our roads safer for all users.

In addition to this work I have also participated in a forum which contributed to discussions on how to reduce road crashes involving interstate motorcycle riders visiting Tasmania. Some of the outcomes from that work are now in place on the Spirit of Tasmania, including safety videos and brochures highlighting the unique hazards riders may face on Tasmanian roads.

I have done this work voluntarily because I believe safer roads benefit everyone. Being self-employed affords me the ability to accept invitations to participate in such forums.

If elected to West Tamar Council, I will continue to advocate for:

• Well-maintained local roads
• Improved road safety
• Action on known risk areas
• Infrastructure that considers the needs of all road users

For me, road safety is not political — it is personal. Every journey should end with people arriving home safely.

Hi all
Unfortunately we have cancelled this months social sips event at the Country Club for several reasons
The venue was insisting on payment up front to secure the booking and as of the Friday deadline for RSVP’s we only had 5 respond

RIP Penelope Keith

One of Britain's finest actresses, whose wit, elegance and impeccable comic timing brought us unforgettable performances in The Good Life, To the Manor Born and so many other productions.
Before she was a household name on television, a young Penelope Keith was cast in the film “Every home should have one” as Lotte von Gelbstein, a formidable, iron-willed German nanny. Far from a background extra, her character was a leather-clad, motorcycle-riding force of nature.

This behind-the-scenes photograph catches Keith completely immersed in the role, providing a gritty, "rocker" counter-image to the comedic chaos spinning around Feldman's main character.
