THE SHAKEDOWN | OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
Saturday, 10 October 2026
Avalon Raceway officially launched its 2026/27 season on Saturday night with The Shakedown, kicking off a landmark campaign as the venue celebrates 50 years of racing at The Place For Pace.
A fantastic night of action across three divisions wrapped up at a family-friendly time, with the final proceedings completed shortly after 10pm.
WINGLESS SPRINTS – 50-LAP FEATURE
The Wingless Sprints stole the show with a thrilling 50-lap feature, and it was Blake Walsh who proved unstoppable.
Fresh off his return from the Northern Territory as a three-time state champion, Walsh delivered a perfect night, sweeping both heat races before leading all the way in the feature to claim the $1,000 winner’s cheque, thanks to Salt Electrical.
The victory carried extra significance, with Walsh piloting a special pink Team Tania livery in tribute to his mother, who sadly lost her battle with breast cancer. It was a memorable result for the Walsh family, adding an emotional element to an outstanding performance on track.
Luke Wheel finished in a close second after struggling earlier in heat races, with Blaine Densley rounding out the podium
continuing his form from last season.
SPEEDCARS – SOUTHERN SPEEDCAR TOUR
The Speedcars kicked off the One Stop Construction Southern Speedcar Tour with a fierce battle to the chequered flag.
Fan favourite Rusty Hickman emerged victorious after a hard-fought contest, holding off three-time national champion Kaidon Brown, who finished second, while Sydney’s Matt Geering secured third place.
STREET STOCKS – TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP
The Street Stocks also got their season underway, with Morris Ahearn claiming the opening feature victory in the Track Championship.
Nathan Fawns crossed the line in second place, with Jenson Wilson completing the podium in third.
Avalon Raceway would like to extend a huge thank you to Peter Green and the team at Salt Electrical for their support in presenting The Shakedown and helping deliver a fantastic opening night for the 2026/27 season.
