Our process
Tare down and set up on rotisserie
This is the removal of everything from the vehicle back to a bare shell. Photos are taken for reference. Anything broken or damaged is noted and ordered ready for refit. If you want to save some money you can do this stage yourself. However we may require some parts like bumper bars and lights to trial fit and to make sure everything lines up correctly. Vehicle is then set on the rotisserie. Bare metal
We use chemical paint st*****rs and manually remove all old paint and fillers from exterior. We use an abrasive blast on underbody and engine bay. Fabricate and repair
While the vehicle is in bare metal we cut out and fabricate any rusted out or heavily damaged sections. If we open a rusted section and find the inner panel also has rust then we will need to unpick the outer skin to gain appropriate access. You also have the option for panel skins to be unpicked so that the seams maybe cleaned as a rust preventative. Gap panels
This is the first stage where we check panel gaps and body lines and make any alterations with the metal if needed. Epoxy prime
This is a zinc rich protective coating that protects the metal and allows filler to be used over the top without compromise. We first sand and clean all the metal and then apply 2 coats of epoxy primer. Filler
A light skim of filler may be required to guarantee straightness. We only use quality 3M platinum plus. Polyester primer
Polyester primers are a high building, water proof coating. We block sand this using coarse sand paper and splines to achieve perfect, flowing bodylines and straightness of panels. Underbody, floor, boot, door jams, inside of panels and engine bay
Underbody, floor and boot is prepped and painted in either KBS Chassis coater satin or gloss black or body colour. Engine bay, door jams and inside of panels are all painted. Once dry panels are refitted. Primer filler
Primer filler is used to fill any sanding marks. We finish this with wet sanding. Base coat colour
This is your choice of colour. All of our paint jobs are clear over base as it lasts longer and looks better. Clear coat
3 coats of clear are applied directly over base coat. This is then sanded flat. Flow coat
3 more coats of clear are applied. Flow coating the clear allows for a deeper smoother finish. Buff
This allows for the removal of any imperfections and a flat glass like finish to be achieved. Fit up
Vehicle is removed from rotisserie and all parts refitted. Auto Body Restoration Agreement. This agreement is to inform the customer on the policies for the auto body restoration process that we follow here at Autobody Restos and Kustoms. The restoration of any vehicle is a lengthy and expensive process and, in many cases can be 400+ hours. It is our desire that we work with you, as the customer to ensure you understand the commitment both in time and money it takes to complete a restoration project. These policies are in place so that we can avoid any misunderstanding and the process will be enjoyable and satisfying. Because of the unknown variable associated with restoration (condition of body, frame, structural components and availability of parts) estimates are just a ball park figure that may be given but by no means can this be 100% accurate. We will reassess and work with you after each stage. All restoration jobs are time and material. Due to our current work load, a deposit of $2,000 will be required upon ex*****on of this agreement to hold your place. Unless other arrangements are made, the customer will be sent an invoice for the work so far carried out on the 15th day of each month to be paid by the 1st day of the following month with a total invoice due upon receipt. Invoice will include time spent on the project and any materials used or ordered during the month. Labour hours descriptions are intended to define the scope of the work performed and may not include every detail of work performed. Hours may also include multiple employees working on the same project. Time sheets are maintained as a record of time spent on the project and photos will be taken as the project progresses. Photos of progress will be posted to our page for your viewing. Customer is welcome to personally view the project as it progresses. At the end of the restoration all photos will be given to the customer on disk or USB stick. Our labour rate is
$80 p/h
Parts, sublets and materials will be marked up 25%
