We re-fabricated & installed a battery bracket on our 1959 retractable to properly accommodate an upgraded battery system. The vehicle was previously fitted with an 5 yr old undersized 500 CCA battery, which proved insufficient for the electrical demands of the car—particularly the retractable roof mechanism.

This has now been replaced with a more suitable 880 CCA battery, ensuring a significantly higher reserve of starting power and consistent electrical performance.

For those familiar with these vehicles, it’s well understood that the retractable roof system is highly power-intensive, drawing approximately 45 amps during its full cycle of operation.

Given these demands, having adequate battery capacity is not just beneficial—it is essential. The upgraded battery, combined with the custom bracket for secure fitment, provides the reliability required for smooth and uninterrupted roof operation and overall functionality

After spending considerable time locating a fuel leak / flooding issue on an Autolite 4100 Ford carburettor, we discovered that the power valve seal which is provided in the “rebuild restoration kit” is a poorly manufactured/ incorrectly sized gasket.
For those familiar with the vintage carburettor. This leak is undetectable and occurs beneath the power valve location within the vacuum chamber itself which activates the pressure variance required to operate the power valve.
This leak is unable to be detected externally unless you remove the carburettor and remove the power valve cover exposing the leak.
Trust me when I say it had me completely stumped and chasing my tail trying to identify the problem.
The gasket as supplied in the kit is substantially thinner that the OEM gaskets and I only discovered this when discussing the issue with a specialist in carburettor restoration.
Blueing the file finishing the gasket face and cover also eliminated some warping ( being the body is aluminium) but once the correct gasket and power valve is installed then the problem vanishes.
Frustrating…… a definite yes but kudos to the carby shop at Yatala for pointing out the obvious and having the OEM parts which provided the solution.

Restored to her former glory, this HJ75 Landcruiser is ready to continue serving her owner with a refreshed look and renewed reliability. Rust removed, panel’s straightened and fresh paint applied she’s prepare for another 30 years memorable journeys ahead! Final assembly of all the bits on the 75 series Landcruiser. Original split rims are now back in their original OEM Toyota grey, fit and finish of the panels is better than original. Glass and a few small bibs and bobs to finalise and she’ll be ready for another 20 years of faithful service.
