"The Groper Creek Caravan Park is operated by the Home Hill Boat Club, not Council. The Committee has advised that due to financial pressures it is no longer in a position to continue operating the facility.
"Council has been working with the Committee to address compliance matters associated with the operation of the park. While Council has regulatory responsibilities in relation to caravan parks across the region, the decision to cease operating the facility rests with the operator.
"Council remains committed to working with the current Committee, and any future Committee, to support positive outcomes for Groper Creek.
"Council continues to maintain the Home Hill Comfort Stop, and I want to reassure the community that there are no plans to close the facility."
Response from and on behalf of the HHBC volunteer Committee. The HHBC is not closing the park, but surrendering the caravan licence to operate, back to the council. The committee received a report from council on 8th June detailing many areas of non compliance with council bylaws. It is this report that has initiated the following decisions by the HHBC. Major issues identified were around potable water supply, waste water, ablutions compliance, amongst other issues. The committee has since been working closely with the BSC to address these critical issues. Unfortunately, due to significant financial and legislative challenges that are beyond the capacity of the HHBC to resolve independently, a public meeting including stakeholders, park users, local residents and council was held. The overwhelmingly majority in attendance supported the decision to relinquish the caravan park licence. The council has advised that the caravan park will be converted to a 3 star community park under their control and maintenance. The HHBC is very saddened with this outcome but due to the requirements and compliance imposed it is unsustainable for the club to continue to manage and operate the caravan park. The HHBC will continue to work closely with the BSC to transition this process in a collaborative and transparent manner.
