Ever heard of an OBD port lock?
This tiny gadget could make a big difference when it comes to protecting your car.

An OBD (on-board diagnostic) port lock helps prevent unauthorised access to your vehicle’s OBD port - the same port offenders are now targeting to mimic keys and steal cars.

In recent weeks, Operation Trinity arrested three youth offenders who had stolen a Toyota parked at a gym. When police caught up with the trio, they threw a key reprogramming device from the car window.

This type of offending is on the rise with 1 in 5 cars being stolen using this method. A car driven through Northland Shopping Centre was allegedly stolen using this technology.

While an OBD is a simple way to block access and keep your car safe, there a few more ways to protect your vehicle:
🔐 Always lock your vehicle, even at home.
🔐 Park off-street where possible.
🔐 Remove garage remotes and spare keys from the vehicle.
🔐 Consider extra anti-theft devices (there are alternatives to OBDs).
🔐 Keep valuables out of sight - or better yet, out of the car entirely.

If your car is stolen, don’t confront the offender - your safety comes first.

Report it to police on 131 444 or online at: police.vic.gov.au/police-assistance-line

If it’s happening now, always call Triple Zero (000).

Road safety is everyone's responsibility.

About two-thirds of fatal and serious injury collisions on our roads are the result of basic driving errors. That’s things like low level speeding, failing to obey road signs, and being distracted behind the wheel.

106 lives have already been lost on Victorian Roads so far this year, that’s 5 more than the same time last year.

Reducing your speed by 5km/h is all it takes significantly reduce the chance of being involved in a collision. And if you are in a crash, it may lower the severity of injuries.

Tragically, three lives were lost over the weekend. And just this morning, three more lives were lost at collisions in Swan Hill West and Clayton South, marking a grim start to National Road Safety Week.

As part of National Road Safety Week, were urging all Victorians to prioritise the safety of all road users and take the road safety pledge.

National Road Safety Week runs from 11 to 18 May.

You can find out more about NRSW and take the pledge here ➡️ roadsafetyweek.com.au
