I know we hear the stories of the centre stands breaking on the twin shock CBX’s, but in the 45 years my CBX has been alive and the 41+ years that I have owned her, I hadn’t had an issue.

Today I took her out and when I parked her on the centre stand, it collapsed and tipped to the right.

Shed did hit the tarmac and because it was a hot day, I thought that the bitumen had given way.
Not so, the completely broken off centre stand was on the ground with my bike.

Like Bruce Banner, I got the super human strength and lifted the bike back onto the side stand , whilst probably 100 people drove past without thinking of stopping and helping.

I’d say I’ll be sore tonight, but I have had a couple of pain killing rums to help ease the pain and disappointment.

Overall, looking at the positives, there was only one broken rear indicator and a scuff on the crash bars and handlebar weight. Also whilst she was parked in my shed, the stand could have collapsed and fallen on another bike.

I’ll talk to a mate to have him weld up the stand and fit a stiffening plate and I’ll climb up the mezzanine and find myself an indicator.

After 45 years this old girl of mine has lived a full life and she is no different to me in that she is in need of some physio to keep her up to scratch. 😉

Just had a mate from Brisbane send me an old photo of what we looked like in the 80’s.

This trip I rode from Melbourne to Brisbane and then we went in the 4x4 into North Western Queensland.

This is when I had the ex Mick Cole Superbike engine with the RSC kit parts and carbs in my bike.

I was slimmer and had my state of the art custom Mars Leathers and Lazer helmet.

160kmh touring in those days, before speed cameras and we only had to watch out for the amphometers across the roads, usually as we came into towns.

Life was good.

My old Grandpa’s axe.

I have owned her for almost 41 years, but in reality the only thing original is the frame, (and it has been straightened twice, from altercations with cars. )

I took her out for a spin on this very windy day. She hasn’t been out since January.

I have recently fitted the low km Pro Link engine. This I have fitted with 0.5 mm oversized higher comp pistons that I helped to re develop.

These are copies of the extremely rare RSC kit pistons. Years ago I had a 996cc RSC equipped race engine. This was when the rules came in for a maximum of 1000cc to be eligible for racing.

With the help of Motorcycle spares Warehouse in Heidelberg Victoria, Australia, I had these pistons replicated in 65mm.

So if your engine is in need of a rebore, it would be worth considering a set of these pistons. They are cast like the originals and higher compression and better quality than Cruzinimage, and price wise they slot halfway between Cruzinimage and J.E / Wiseco.

I have no stake in the sales of these pistons, just a desire to help fellow CBX enthusiasts.

On my bike, which has the softer but more tractable Pro Link cams, I have gone from 80 to 90 rear wheel horsepower on my dyno.

More importantly she can overtake at 100 kmh without dropping down a gear.

These pistons will drop straight into a twin shock engine without any measuring of the valve pockets.

If you are running bigger cams it would be recommended that you use due diligence and use the plasticine to measure your clearances.

In the 80’s I did about 20,000 Km on the genuine RSC pistons, including racing. I am confident that these replicas will be a good option for some CBX enthusiasts, when they have their engines rebuilt.

I think with The cold southern hemisphere weather coming in, she won’t be going out for a few months.

I must admit I wasn’t relaxed riding in the wind and dodging debris, so I am looking forward to the more settled spring time.

Cheers 🍻 Rol.
