I know we hear the stories of the centre stands breaking on the twin shock CBX’s, but in the 45 years my CBX has been alive and the 41+ years that I have owned her, I hadn’t had an issue.
Today I took her out and when I parked her on the centre stand, it collapsed and tipped to the right.
Shed did hit the tarmac and because it was a hot day, I thought that the bitumen had given way.
Not so, the completely broken off centre stand was on the ground with my bike.
Like Bruce Banner, I got the super human strength and lifted the bike back onto the side stand , whilst probably 100 people drove past without thinking of stopping and helping.
I’d say I’ll be sore tonight, but I have had a couple of pain killing rums to help ease the pain and disappointment.
Overall, looking at the positives, there was only one broken rear indicator and a scuff on the crash bars and handlebar weight. Also whilst she was parked in my shed, the stand could have collapsed and fallen on another bike.
I’ll talk to a mate to have him weld up the stand and fit a stiffening plate and I’ll climb up the mezzanine and find myself an indicator.
After 45 years this old girl of mine has lived a full life and she is no different to me in that she is in need of some physio to keep her up to scratch. 😉
