This Riviera 4000 Offshore recently came out of the water for a scheduled antifoul.

On the previous sea trial, we suspected growth on the running gear as we were unable to achieve target RPM and experienced planing struggles. Haul out was scheduled as we were correct in our guess

we identified significant barnacle growth on the running gear, which was having a noticeable impact on the vessel’s performance. While the boat was out of the water, we also carried out a number of repairs within the bilge, including rectifying oil leaks faulty ball valves and steering repairs.

Following the repairs, antifoul and a full sea trial, the results spoke for themselves.

Before entering the workshop, the vessel was cruising at approximately 18 knots. After completing the work, cruising speed increased to 24 knots, highlighting just how much of a difference a clean hull and running gear can make.

Regular maintenance below the waterline and inside the engine room is often overlooked, but it plays a critical role in maintaining performance, reliability and fuel efficiency.

Back in the water!

This Sea Ray 330 twin shaft drive has just been relaunched after receiving twin 5.7L MerCruiser engine rebuilds.

It’s a great milestone in the project, but we’re not quite finished yet. There are still a few more upgrades and finishing touches to come, so stay tuned 👀

Another Mustang back on the water! 👌

Peter’s 3800 Mustang Hardtop is now fully serviced and ready to enjoy.

✔️ Complete sterndrive service
✔️ Haul out at Boat Masters
✔️ Antifoul & Propspeed
✔️ New input shaft and seals after discovering a previously installed input shaft seal had been fitted backwards, leaving the original worn shaft issue unresolved
✔️ Repaired the lower gearcase exhaust cavity after a submerged log became wedged between the swim platform and the sterndrive
✔️ Removed both engine heat exchangers for chemical cleaning, flushing and pressure testing to remove years of built-up debris caused by lack of use
✔️ Sea trial completed – 33 knots at 4,800 RPM on both engines

Doing the job properly means fixing the root cause—not just masking the symptoms.

Whether it’s routine maintenance, major repairs or complete rebuilds, Sixty Mile Marine is your one-stop workshop for MerCruiser and Volvo Penta sterndrives.

3800 Mustang up for annuals - While carrying out our inspections we discovered the starboard input shaft seal had failed, allowing gear oil to leak into the bellows. It’s a common issue that can easily go unnoticed until the drive is removed for service, making regular inspections an important part of preventative maintenance.

The drive is now apart for repairs while we complete the sterndrive servicing and antifouling before the boat heads back into the water.

A good reminder that routine servicing is about much more than changing oils – it’s about finding the small issues before they become big ones.
