Ever stood on the dock wondering what size generator your boat actually needs? You’re not alone! It’s the question we hear most. So our engineers have written the answer down for you.

The guide breaks down how to work out what truly runs at once (not just what’s installed), how much to allow for motor and compressor start‑up surges, why “bigger” isn’t “safer” (lightly loaded diesels don’t age well), 50 Hz versus 60 Hz in Australia and the kW ranges that typically suit different vessel sizes.

It’s free to read, no sign‑up required and we’ll be releasing a new guide each month.
If your vessel raises a question the guide doesn’t cover, send us a message with the boat details and what’s aboard we’ll help you work it out..

Working in tight spaces is all part of the job!

The MSA team gets to work removing the starboard main engine heat exchanger, carefully disconnecting hoses and components before bringing the unit back to the workshop.

Once removed, it’s time for an inspection and an acid bath to clean away built up deposits that can affect cooling system performance.

A good clean makes a big difference, but there’s still work to be done!

Cleaning complete. Ready for the next step! 💪

Rudders serviced and ready for the next stage!

The MSA team has completed the rudder overhaul, from dismantling and inspecting the components to servicing and reassembly.

With the mechanical work now complete, the vessel is one step closer to launch.

Next up? Back in the water for sea trials to put the steering system to the test. 🌊

With the propellers removed, the next stage begins.

The MSA team is now dismantling the shaft assemblies, preparing for the replacement of the shaft seals and cutlass bearings.

These components play an important role in keeping the running gear properly supported, aligned and operating smoothly.
Careful dismantling now sets the foundation for getting everything back together correctly.

Removing a propeller requires the right equipment, the right technique and plenty of care especially when working around the running gear.

One step at a time, and no shortcuts.

Bad smells on board?
Sometimes a clean just isn’t enough.

For this vessel, we tackled the problem at the source pumping out the black water tank, replacing the carbon filter and treating every sink and toilet with a probiotic solution.

Because getting rid of unwanted odours isn’t about masking them. It’s about finding the source and treating the system properly. ⚙️

Hardware is checked for condition, wear and corrosion, with components cleaned, serviced or replaced where required.

Every bolt, fastener and fitting is assessed to ensure it continues to meet the required specification, with no compromise to strength, integrity or serviceability.

And when you’re working on a superyacht, even the hardware is on another scale.

Just another day of marine engineering superyacht size.
