Just recently Huntingfield Pony & Riding Club held their Spring Show. They had a wonderful turnout, and we thank them for their update and lovely words.

โ€œThanks to OTT Tasmania for supporting Huntingfield Pony & Riding Clubโ€™s Spring show 2026. The show was a great success and we had some lovely OTT horses compete in hacking and showjumping (a few did both!)"

Photograph 1:

Tara Glen Arogorn (raced as Arrow Power) ridden by Tamara Jacobson took out Champion OTT hack as well as Champion Hack in the open ring! This is incredible for a 21yo TB and credit to great management by Tam and her family. Pictured with OTT judge Michelle Milne.

Photograph 2:

Hazel Howie with her beautifully educated Standardbred Baxter was Reserve Champion OTT, in a mixed field with the Thoroughbreds! Baxter also won reserve champion Galloway and carried Hazel to Champion senior rider!

Photograph 3:
We had 12 OTT horses in the showjumping classes. Adele Piggin and her lovely young Standardbred Lewicki Leis won the OTT Tas lucky draw prize and picked up ribbons in the 65cm and 75cm classes.

On Saturday, our OTT Representative Amanda, attended the Monmouth Pony & Riding Club Show Jump Day. The weather held out to be a stunning day, and it was well supported with OTT's.

The day was represented by many local PC members attending and it was really nice to see the friendly competitiveness yet support amongst everyone. From poles on the ground up to 1.05m, seeing multiple OTT's in nearly all classes was a great effort by all. Well done Monmouth and organising committee for a well run day and we look forward to attending the next one in August ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ˜€

๐Ÿด Feed the Horse the Way Nature Intended

Horses are hindgut fermenters, meaning they rely on billions of beneficial microbes in their hindgut to digest fibre and produce energy. Their digestive system is designed for continuous grazing, not large, infrequent grain meals. Supporting this natural process is the key to long-term health, performance, and wellbeing.

๐ŸŒฟ Nature Intended
โœ… Continuous forage intake
โœ… Small amounts eaten frequently
โœ… High-fibre, low-starch diet
โœ… Stable hindgut pH
โœ… Healthy microbial population
โœ… Strong digestive health, performance, and wellbeing

๐Ÿšซ Against Nature
โŒ Large grain meals
โŒ Long periods without forage
โŒ Excess starch
โŒ Hindgut pH drops
โŒ Microbial die-off
โŒ Increased risk of ulcers, laminitis, colic, poor performance, and poor overall health

When too much starch reaches the hindgut, it disrupts the delicate microbial balance. As the hindgut becomes more acidic, beneficial fibre-digesting microbes die off, reducing digestive efficiency and increasing the risk of serious health issues.
๐Ÿ’š Respect the horse's biology. Feed forage first, limit starch, and support the hindgutโ€”the foundation of a healthy, happy horse.
