We had the pleasure of transporting a 1929 Studebaker Director to Rockhampton for some long awaited repairs. The old girl was hit by a drunk driver around twelve months ago.
The 1929 Studebaker Director was the overseas export name for the American-market Studebaker Dictator. Studebaker renamed the vehicle for European and Australian markets because the word "Dictator" was deemed politically unacceptable in monarchies and British Empire countries.
The 1929 Director was positioned as Studebaker’s entry-level model beneath the Commander and President series. It featured a standard 242-cubic-inch L-head inline-six engine that produced 70 horsepower. In June 1929, Studebaker expanded the line by offering a 221-cubic-inch straight-eight engine option, capable of delivering 70 bhp at 3,200 rpm.The vehicle was built with all-steel bodies, featured crowned fenders, and typical of 1929 models - started shifting from traditional nickel plating to chrome accents on the exterior.
