Custom Metal Fab The Neil Raymond Story

I grew up in Blackwood a suburb of Adelaide & completed a Fitting & Turning apprenticeship and an Arc Welding certificate.

I worked in the metal manufacturing area for many years. Modified street cars started very early with a Mini then a 179 powered purple 100E Prefect. I joined the SA Rod & Custom Club in 1973 & completed my ’28 Roadster Pickup in 1976. In 1977 I met my wife Kylie & we were married in December, 40 years coming up, she is a very understanding lady. I completed our 29 Coupe in 1984 and continued drag

racing the Pickup. In the early 90’s I joined the fledgling DLRA & raced the Pickup @ Lake Gairdner for 5 years with a best of 174 mph and a terrifying spin. A highlight was 1995 when the Americans bought out several cars & Al Teague went 355 mph. At AIR the 289 Ford powered Pickup had gone 9.92 / 133. Clearly its limits as a race car had been reached. In 2000 I finished “Pickup 2” a purpose built AA/HR or Supercharged Outlaws drag car. Since then with the help of a group of a very dedicated group of friends as crew we have had great fun & some adventures racing at many tracks with a current best of 7.04 / 194.4 mph. Around 2012 I was retrenched & decided to start Mobile Custom Metal Fab offering all types of metal fabrication services for race cars, rods & resto mods either at the customers’ site or mine.

We’ve had plenty happening in the workshop lately.

We’ve been busy making another set of ’33–34 Ford chassis rails for a local Adelaide customer, putting a big rear kick-up into a ’56 Chevrolet pickup chassis and fitting a Rod-Tech IFS up front. We’ve also been making good progress on a 1948 Studebaker project.

If you’ve got a chassis project in mind—whether it’s a complete chassis, modifications, repairs, or a custom build—feel free to get in touch. I’m always happy to have a chat about your project

Whenever we need a vehicle moved, or one of our customers needs their car brought into the workshop, Nev is our go-to!
Being a fellow car enthusiast, he knows how much your pride and joy means to you and treats every vehicle like it’s his own… even your daily! 🤭
Couldn’t recommend him highly enough. 🚗👌
