Cooling Concerns.
As the weather heats up, it's worth getting a coolant inspection. Plastic components degrade and weaken, classic 'browning' of components indicates failure risk, particularly where heat and pressure are concerned. Just like this upper radiator connection on an older Ranger. Thankfully caught in the workshop not out on the road.

ADAS - Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

We had a 2020 Mitsubishi Triton come in with constant Pre Collision System (PCS) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) lights on the dash. These lights staying on, typically indicate an issue with the camera based system and the module located at the rear view mirror. While this can be caused by damage through a replacement windscreen, it is also a not uncommon age related failure in this model. Once diagnosed and the sealed module replaced, a front end static calibration, followed by a dynamic calibration on the road must be carried out to ensure the ADAS system will function as expected.

Induction Cleaning
Diesel engines frequently suffer from intake fouling due to the carbon and oil deposits flowing back through EGR systems and PCV valves. Loss of power, hesitation and even limp mode can be the result.
A great preventative and curative solution can be an induction system clean, where specialised chemicals are introduced to the intake system in a highly vapourised form.
A variation on this process with different chemicals can also help resolve hesitation and misfire issues with petrol GDI engines through cleaning deposits from the intake valves. Contact us for details.

BMW Sump Seal Replacement

We recently repaired the common (for age and kilometres) issue, of a leaking BMW X1 sump seal. As BMW famously designed their engines to be mounted at a 30 degree slant to lower the centre of gravity, lower bonnet height and improve torque balance, while providing increased room for the intake system, the right hand side of the seal remains below the oil level.
This can lead to common leaks after 100k km or so, as the polymer seal hardens and the plastic sump expands and contracts at a different rate to the block.
The fun part is the need to remove the subframe and steering rack to access the sump, which therefore requires the engine to be supported from above. The resourceful BMW engineers thoughtfully provide a threaded hole at the top of the engine where a genuine BMW tow hook can be used to attach to the engine support beam. Simple....except on the X1 N20 the tow hook supplied with the car does not match the thread on the engine !!๐Ÿ˜• Thankfully time saved by borrowing the tow hook from a neighbours BMW 3 series race car ๐Ÿ˜„.

Air Bags - a versatile option.
If your suspension is sagging when you load up or hitch up a trailer, then perhaps a set of airbags could help get you back on the level.
We have recently added air bag spring'helpers to a Toyota Corolla Fielder, which is an imported hybrid wagon. Replaced leaking rear bags on a Toyota Hilux tray ute with a heavy canopy and also replaced the complete air suspension system in a Mercedes Eclass hearse.
With systems available for most vehicles they are a versatile solution allowing you to vary the help your existing springs need, correcting ride height or simply supporting an increased payload.
Varying the air pressure will vary the support so you can increase it when you load up and reduce it when that assistance is no longer required.

Choose the BG Performance Service option with our standard service and you could achieve a 10-17% fuel efficiency improvement based on feedback our existing customers have provided. At current fuel pricing this is an equivalent to those fuel savings and is achievable through the service interval. From a diesel 2012 Mitsubishi Pajero recording a 2.5 litre/100km improvement to a petrol 2008 Toyota Corolla dropping consumption from 8.5 litres /100km to 6.5 litres/100km.
