Been a while since I’ve done a post. I’m currently on a massive job - complete refit on one of my customers beautiful Grand Banks 36 motor cruiser. The topsides of this boat were looking very very tired as the boat was built back in 1989 and was in need of some very professional love. It’s a Riviera built Grand Banks. I have done the teak decks and the teak swim platform around eight years ago and the owner had always talked about a full re spray. Anything that was no longer needed I’ve removed , ground out and glassed over. A huge thanks to the guys at Fenwicks Marina for the use of their portable enclosed tent to keep things nice and dry!!It really is the only way to get a job like this one done as the exhaust fan and filters keep it all clean and tidy with nil overspray ✅
I’m working in with Mr Greg Fry the legend painter who I must say is part of the furniture here at Fenwicks and well known to all as a true professional. We are making great progress and getting the job done. The hull is now complete after weeks and weeks of grinding filling fairing and re shaping, lots of epoxy undercoats and more sanding. The owner has gone with AWL grip 3000 Snow White. It’s now onto the super structure. The boat once painted will have all new 316 polished stainless windows and a new custom made 316 stainless sliding door. All the stainless rails and rub rails will be mirror polished to completely set it all off. New teak on the Transome and many more updates including all the varnish work. Solid blackbutt front doors with a half lap joint, 6mm toughend frosted glass panels. 8 coats of AWL wood gloss varnish and 2 X satin over the top. Very very heavy duty double lock. Was a nice little project to finally get finished as I started these doors 8 months ago but work has just been off its head busy. So just in time for Christmas 🎅

Another absolutely beautiful Pleysier in for some minor repairs, Inkwazi, gets some love to stop the wet stuff spreading into the strip planked Western red cedar deck. When removing timber rot its like cancer, you must go further than required just to make sure it never returns and you get every bit. The hinges were the culprit in this scenario. In doing this repair I always drill oversized holes where the bolts go eg for a 5mm bolt I’ll drill a 12mm hole and back fill the hole with west systems epoxy and 403 glue powder. I then re drill all required holes and as you can see there is absolutely no way this can ever happen again. I can guarantee it works as I’ve been doing this for many years. 😊👌
Another job was to try and eliminate the bounce the cockpit deck has at the very stern. I’ve custom made up some timber and ply chocks in which I’ve mounted in onto the rudder stocks. And put in on a small bed of sika.

Thalassa in for repair after a rope left on the bollard and out the fairleed gets introduced to the propeller 😖
Luck the owner had some celery top for the repairs 😊👌
Each 5mm lamination was stepped out 15mm x 6 at a total thickness of 30mm.

Shaw 650 in for some much needed repairs, delaminated forward top deck, epoxy filler poping off. Dremel out and primer in. Re fill fair and undercoat. Mask out and top coat. Paint blisters in the transom sorted. All rigging mast, boom, kite pole and tiller to be re painted in AWL craft 3000 jet black flat.

Great colour match for a 16yo boat. A very very light hi performance machine.

Grand Banks 36 in for her annual service. Sliped at Fenwicks marine for antifouling, prop speed and hull polish and I’ll say they are the best in the business 👌. Specialised Marine in for full superstructure wet rub and polish, polish x 2 😳
Total deck sand as we layed new teak decks 8 years ago and made the solid teak swim platform that still looks as good as the day it was made! All varnish rubbed back and 2 full coats. Engine strainers all cleaned and valves greased up. All bilges scrubed and cleanes dry. New Garmin 16” head unit fitted with a neat solid teak back panel. As always the client is over the moon. 😊
Going to be a Crazy run now right into Christmas 🎄
