A Plug-in Hybrid has two batteries but they do two very different jobs. 🔋🔌

The large high-voltage battery supplies energy to the electric drive system and can be recharged by plugging the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid into a compatible power source.
While you’re driving, regenerative braking can also recover some energy and feed it back into the high-voltage battery.

Then there’s the separate 12V battery, which supports many of the vehicle’s electrical systems and accessories. You don’t plug this battery in separately — it’s managed by the vehicle.

So, what actually happens when you drive a Plug-in Hybrid? 🔌⚡

With charge in the high-voltage battery, the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid can use electric power for everyday driving. When more performance is needed, or depending on driving conditions and battery charge, the petrol engine can automatically join in.

It can also recover energy through regenerative braking as you slow down.
