TARE weights is something we must be on top of.
Is your VIN plate truly correct? Are caravans and horsefloats accurately weighed by manufacturers? Are accessories fitted after the final weigh. If buying a second hand caravan or trailer be mindful previous owners have added accessories.

A busy weekend for the Weigh Forward team. Lots of interested clients sorted out. A line up of caravan's is a positive sign for a quality service.

Tomorrow Tuesday 11/8/26. Georgetown, Scottsdale and Dilston. Unfortunately we are booked out however we are will continue up the North of the state from Wednesday for those wanting to book.

Wednesday 12/8/26 Prospect to Penguin. All areas in between.

Our clients have been asking for Sunday weighing in the south of the state... We like to support everyone. This Sunday 9/8/26 Weigh Forward will make the journey back to Hobart.

Photo below is another Crusader caravan recently weighed. A little heavy on a 2700kg ATM however a very nice van. Single axle 17ft and 18ft caravans are limited and some have Payloads as low as 360kg. The Isuzu Dmax had all the good gear including a stunning canopy and a GVM upgrade to keep the weights within limits. In the past 4 weeks we have weighed many Tasmanian families boarding the boat and heading to the warmer weather. Lucky ducks...

Slide-on campers...

Over the weekend Weigh Forward Mobile Caravan and Vehicle Weighing provided educational sessions statewide weighing several caravans, 3x motorhomes, a boat, 2 horsefloats, 4x slide on campers and a sprint car!!!

Our Monday post highlights the importance of slide-on campers.

1. Gross vehicle mass. This is the maximum weight the vehicle can carry, including fuel, passengers, accessories and the slide-on camper.

2. Axle overloading. Even if the total weight is under GVM, heavy slide-ons can easily overload the rear axle limit. Be mindful when towing trailers with campers fitted. Ball weight is often increased up to 1.5% over the rear axle of it's actual weight, depending on the distance the tow hitch is from the centre of the rear axle. I will explain how ball weight transfer works in a separate post.

3. Insurance. Driving a vehicle that exceeds legal weights will void your insurance and risk a fine.

4. Chassis Damage. Excessive weight on a ute tray creates high bending stress on the chassis overhang, risking permanent damage.

5. Handling. A vehicle is engineered to stop, steer and brake to strict specifications. Incorrectly weighted vehicles cause concerns.
