Why are NP300 injectors so sensitive to contamination?

Inside the injector, both the piston and nozzle needle operate with extremely tight clearances. Even small particles or metal contamination can stop them moving freely.

That can affect injector opening time — or even partially jam the nozzle open and cause knocking.

When fitting replacement injectors, always:
• Replace the fuel filter
• Use a pre-filter if possible
• Clean the fuel rail thoroughly before installation

Keeping contamination out of the system can significantly extend injector life.

Is your Hilux or Prado hard to start?

Before buying injectors, answer one important question:

Does it struggle only after sitting overnight, or every time you start it?

If priming the fuel system helps it start after sitting overnight, air may be entering the fuel supply system.

If it struggles on every start, worn injectors become much more likely—but proper testing is still recommended before replacing parts.

Hilux or Prado Rough Idle? Don’t Blame the Injectors Yet

If your Hilux or Prado has rough idle or black smoke, a failed injector isn’t the only possible cause.

A leaking injector washer can reduce compression in that cylinder. This commonly happens when the injector seating surface wasn’t cleaned properly, or an old crush washer was reused.

Before replacing a complete set of injectors, check the injector washers and seating surfaces first.

Why would Hilux injectors start knocking when you accelerate?

One thing we check is whether all injectors are opening at similar pressures. If the opening pressures become uneven, the injection timing and combustion can become uneven as well — and that can create the knocking you hear under acceleration.

Particularly on a 1KD engine, this is something worth checking before it turns into a much more expensive problem.

A lot of diesel owners — and even some workshops — overlook this.

On certain engines, the high-pressure injector pipes sit underneath the rocker cover. If one leaks internally, diesel can contaminate the engine oil and cause the oil level to rise.

In extreme cases, the engine may start consuming that fuel/oil mixture and run uncontrollably.

If your injectors have been replaced or removed, make sure the high-pressure pipes are checked and replaced where required.

BMW KNOCKING? DON’T WASTE $3,000 ON INJECTORS

Many owners replace all four injectors—then discover the knocking, shaking and smoking are still there.

On BMW four-cylinder diesels, check compression, the bottom end and timing chain before buying injectors.
