🚛 PTO Fault Diagnosis & Repair

We were called out to a truck that wouldn't lift the tipper tray.

After discussing the issue with the customer, we carried out our own inspection to confirm the fault. Diagnostics then began, including pressure testing the hydraulic pump and checking the electrical and pneumatic activation systems of the PTO drive unit.

During testing, we discovered the PTO drive unit was producing an abnormal noise and was not engaging correctly.

After stripping down the PTO assembly, we found the root cause: a component had broken off internally and become lodged inside the unit. This restricted the selector arm's movement, preventing full engagement of the PTO and stopping the hydraulic pump from being driven.

Fault found. Diagnosis confirmed. Repair underway. 🔧

⚠️ If your tipper, PTO, hydraulics, or auxiliary equipment isn't operating correctly, don't wait for a complete failure. Early diagnosis can save significant downtime and costly repairs.

We're off to race the Finke Desert Race! 🏍️🔥

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Australia's biggest off-road race, with over 750 riders lining up to take on one of the toughest tracks in the country.

The course stretches 225km through the heart of the desert. Day one is a full-speed run from Alice Springs to Finke, and day two is the return journey back. No smooth trails here — just endless whoops, deep sand, dust, and rough terrain that tests both rider and machine to their limits.

It's been 11 years since I last competed in this event, and I couldn't be more excited to be back.

A huge thank you to my team, family, friends, and everyone who has supported me along the way. Your support is the reason I'm able to chase this dream once again.

✅ Reached proper hydraulic operating temperature
✅ Measured pump relief pressure on individual work functions:
• Bucket curl
• Boom up
• Boom extension

✅ Performed load testing to verify holding valve operation
✅ Checked cylinder seals for internal leakage and performance integrity

🔧 FUN FACTS ABOUT WILL 🔧

Before building W Coole Mechanical into the growing business it is today, Will completed his apprenticeship in 2009 doing field service work around Newman in the Pilbara. 👨‍🔧⚙️

Here’s a look at the journey behind the big boss:

🚜 Started contracting in 2010 for Daltech, rebuilding machines and providing labour hire across WA through hard work and determination

🐂 Spent time in the Kimberley working on cattle stations, mustering and carrying out mechanical repairs

🚗 Migrated to Kununurra where he managed a 130-car Thrifty hire fleet while also running a mechanical business — one of the toughest stages of his career

🛠️ Provided remote field service work all across the Kimberley, from Berkeley River Lodge to Billiluna

🚁 Once flew to a remote site in a helicopter with a 100kg cylinder head on his lap, replaced the entire head within 8 hours, then flew home in a plane… and even got to fly it 😆

🏝️ Worked as Maintenance Manager for Orpheus Island Resort dealing with billionaires and millionaires

🏡 Came back to WA to “visit” mum and dad… and almost 10 years later, here we are

🚙 Started WCM as one man in an old LandCruiser ute — now running a growing team of 6 people covering WA

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Strong believer in family, community, and supporting his team

📈 Loves growing the business while creating opportunities for others

😄 Always up for a laugh, a challenge, and getting the job done
