🏁 4 Reasons the Manual Transmission Is Slowly Disappearing

Is the third pedal becoming a thing of the past? 😢

Remember working the clutch, rowing through the gears, and feeling connected to every shift? Finding a new car with a manual transmission is getting harder. Here's why! 👇

1️⃣ Automatics Got TOO GOOD

Modern automatics and dual-clutch transmissions (DCTs) deliver lightning-fast shifts, smooth driving, and impressive efficiency. For automakers chasing quicker lap times, automatics often have the upper hand. 🏎️

2️⃣ Traffic Made People Give Up 😭

Let's be real. Nobody enjoys a thousand clutch presses in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

As more drivers choose the convenience of automatics, fewer people learn to drive stick. And so the cycle continues:

Fewer manual drivers → fewer manual cars → fewer people learning stick.

We're becoming a rare breed, folks. 🫡

3️⃣ Emissions Rules Changed the Game 🌱

Modern cars face increasingly strict fuel economy and emissions standards. Electronically controlled automatics can precisely manage gear changes to help manufacturers meet these targets.

4️⃣ EVs Don't Really Need Them ⚡

Most electric vehicles use a single-speed reduction gear because electric motors deliver strong torque without needing conventional multi-speed transmissions.

Some EVs simulate manual shifting, but let's be honest… it's not quite the same as rowing your own gears. 👀

🏎️ Are Manuals Officially Cooked?

Not yet! 🔥 Enthusiasts and performance-car makers are still keeping the third pedal alive. But as automatics evolve and EVs become more common, manuals are getting harder to find.

There's something special about pressing the clutch, finding the perfect gear, and feeling connected to the machine—not just along for the ride.

Save the manuals. Driving should be more than just turning the wheel. 🤝

🔥 THE CIVIC TYPE R JUST GOT EVEN BETTER.

The Honda Civic Type R returns for 2027 with a sharper edge—and Honda didn’t just give it a visual refresh.

The latest Type R gets improved engine cooling, increased front-end downforce, revised +R mode tuning, quicker rev-matching, and a more direct brake pedal feel. Basically, Honda found more ways to make an already serious hot hatch even more focused.

But there’s one upgrade that might surprise you… heated front seats. 🔥

Yes, the FL5 finally gets heated buckets, along with upgraded seat perforation, more suede throughout the cabin, darker interior trim, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a redesigned aluminum shift k**b.

Outside, the changes are subtle but functional. A revised front fascia improves airflow, while a deeper front splitter helps keep the front axle planted. Honda is also adding Meteorite Gray Metallic to the color lineup.

And underneath it all? The Type R formula remains the same: turbocharged performance, a 6-speed manual, and front-wheel drive.

Starting at $49,990, the 2027 Civic Type R costs a little more—but Honda is clearly keeping the focus where enthusiasts want it: more performance, more control, and more reasons to keep rowing your own gears. 🏁

Would you take the 2027 Type R over the Integra Type S?

A recent study from researchers at Tohoku University’s Institute of Development suggests that driving a manual transmission may stimulate the brain’s prefrontal cortex in ways that automatic driving does not.

The reason? Every shift, clutch input, and decision behind the wheel requires active engagement—working areas associated with attention, memory, and decision-making.

So technically… that heel-toe downshift was brain training. 😂🏁

Manual transmissions might be disappearing, but we’re not giving up the third pedal anytime soon. Save the manuals. 🫡

🚨 McLAREN JUST BROUGHT THE MANUAL BACK. 🚨

The McL 6GT is here—and it’s bringing something we never thought we'd see from McLaren again: three pedals. 🫡🔥

Inspired by Bruce McLaren’s original M6GT, this V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive supercar features a proper manual gearbox, making it the first manual McLaren since the legendary F1 in 1992.

Lightweight carbon-fiber construction, hydraulic steering, tactile controls, and a gearshift designed for maximum feel… McLaren is going full analogue. 👀

And the best part? A production version is expected in 2028.

The manual isn't dead. It just got a McLaren comeback. 🏁

Would you take the manual McL 6GT over a modern dual-clutch supercar? 👇

🕹️ Save the Stick: Who’s Still Fighting for the 3-Pedal Dream?

The manual transmission may be disappearing—but not everyone is ready to let it die. 🫡

As automatics continue to dominate the market, several performance brands are still investing in the three-pedal experience that enthusiasts love.

🔥 Porsche is bringing the 6-speed manual back to the 911 Carrera S with its new MT Package.

🔥 McLaren is bringing a manual gearbox back to a production car for the first time since the legendary F1.

🔥 Subaru is doubling down on enthusiast cars, including plans for new manual-equipped models and the return of its heavier-duty TY85 gearbox.

🔥 Toyota continues offering manuals in the GR Corolla, GR Yaris and GR86.

🔥 Honda is keeping the stick alive in the Civic Type R and Integra Type S.

🔥 Ford says the Mustang manual will remain as long as customers continue demanding it.

🔥 BMW continues offering 6-speed manuals in the M2, M3 and M4.

And then there’s another interesting direction: simulated manual transmissions. Ferrari and Koenigsegg are experimenting with technology that electronically recreates the feel of a clutch and H-pattern gearbox—potentially giving enthusiasts the engagement of a manual with modern automatic hardware.

So maybe the manual isn't dying after all… it's evolving. 👀

But for us, nothing beats a real clutch pedal, a proper shifter, and nailing that perfect shift.

Which brand do you think will be the LAST to give up on the manual? 👇

Manuals aren’t dead yet. 🏁🔥

With the Toyota Supra gone in 2026, the spotlight is now on the Nissan Z Nismo — officially bringing back the manual gearbox enthusiasts have been begging for.

Twin-turbo. RWD. 6-speed.

Exactly how a proper sports car should be. 😮‍💨

Looks like Nissan heard the car community loud and clear:

Save. The. Manuals. ⚙️

Would you take the Z Nismo over the Supra? 👀
