EMERGENCY ALERT - PREPARE TO LEAVE - Charley’s Creek Chinchilla - flood update as at 2.20pm Wednesday 11 March 2026.
> Chinchilla residents in flooded areas are advised to PREPARE TO LEAVE as major flood levels continue to rise. The flood level in Charley's Creek has reached 6.36m.
>The Bureau of Meteorology has advised Council that we can expect to reach 6.6m by 11:30pm tonight with continued rises to a peak of 6.8m tomorrow, Thursday 12 March 2026.
> Please make arrangements NOW. Monitor where water levels are currently sitting around your property and compare with the modelled heights from the Bureau of Meteorology.
> Low-lying residents planning voluntary evacuation should prepare to leave during daylight hours today and are encouraged to plan to stay with family or friends.
> If your life is in danger, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. For flood assistance, call SES on 132 500.
What are we expecting?
• The Bureau of Meteorology advises Charley's Creek will reach 6.5m by 5:30pm and 6.6m by 11:30pm and continue to rise above the major flood level peaking at 6.8m on Thursday 12 March 2026.
• Local roads and bridges are closed.
• Evacuation routes may be cut off soon.
• If you remain in the area, you may become stranded without power, water, and other essential services.
What you need to do:
• Leave now and go to a safe place in a high part of Chinchilla away from the flood. This could be with your family or friends.
• Take your mobile phone, charger, medicine, identification, cash, and keys with you.
• If you come to a flooded road, turn around and go another way. Do not drive through floodwater.
• Decide how you will get to your safe place and ensure you have enough fuel to get there. If you come to a flooded road, turn around and go another way. Do not drive, walk, or swim through flood water.
• If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.
• Take your pets and companion animals for safe travel.
• Help others if you can.
