A dynamic weather pattern is set to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms across large parts of New South Wales this week, with some areas at risk of heavy rainfall and flooding.

A series of slow-moving upper-level troughs and low pressure systems will move across southeastern Australia over the coming days, creating unstable conditions favourable for persistent rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Rain is expected to affect large parts of NSW from Monday through to the weekend, with eastern and northern parts of the state currently the most likely areas to see heavier falls.

There is also a risk of localised flooding in some areas, particularly where repeated showers and thunderstorms develop over the same locations.

Forecast models indicate some parts of eastern NSW could see significant rainfall totals over the next 7 days, although exact rainfall amounts and locations may change as the system develops.

Towards the end of the week, increasing winds and hazardous surf conditions are also possible along parts of the NSW coast as a low pressure system develops in the Tasman Sea.

Residents are encouraged to stay up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings throughout the week.
