Fixing the lacklustre 'premium' audio in a 300 Series VX.

Ashley got in touch with us because he just wasn't loving the sound system in his Landcruiser LC300 VX. Despite having the 10 speaker amplified sound system (with OEM sub) from factory, the sound was really anything but premium - dull, lifeless and just meh. Not something to enjoy on long outback adventures!

To fix this, a lovely set of Audible Physics RAM406-Centre speakers was masterfully fitted, with OEM-fit speaker adaptors, wiring adaptors, and bespoke adaptors for those gorgeous wideband drivers going into the dash.
All speakers are baffled and sealed to ensure the most accurate sonic reproduction in the cabin, and no acoustic losses behind trim panels.

To improve the subsonics, the OEM sub enclosure was pulled down, deadened meticulously, re-sealed and re-assembled, and a new Helix IK S8 slim 8" subwoofer installed in place of the lifeless OEM driver.
.. but what good are all these beautiful audio reproduction drivers if we aren't feeding them the appropriate audio signals?

To that end, a Match UP 10DSP was expertly fitted under the passenger seat adjacent to the factory amplifier, with all vehicle wiring connections done with a Plug & Play harness made in-house.

After handing over to our in-house DSP tuning maestro, this Landcruiser is now ready for hitting the road and leaving the world behind, with an in-cabin soundtrack of absolute acoustic bliss.

A++ will definitely recommend this system again!

If you own a 2024 Y62 Patrol.... you will know the utter frustration of that god-awful head unit they received from Nissan Australia.
The owner of this Y62 was ready to put his fist through the dash with constant Carplay dropouts, phone calls that didn't work, random reboots.... he was over it! 😡😡

But we fixed that! 😎💪
Our skilled team was able to fit a Pioneer 9" trapezoid style head unit using a fascia for a 10" screen the customer sourced, along with a custom 3D printed 10"-9" reducer insert to make it fit nicely.
With a bit of wiring wizardry, we were able to retain all the original functions such as steering wheel controls, factory USB port, and the reverse camera (requires a signal converter).

Now there's rock solid WIRELESS Apple Carplay, Android Auto, improved audio performance, and a head unit that "just works" (as it should!).

We're just waiting for the video of the customer destroying the original screen 😆

When we get presented with such a clean, original classic like this, we make sure that we put our efforts into hiding as much of our work as possible – the car should be the hero, not the installation!
This is the ethos we took with Nikil’s lovely E46 M3, giving the audio system a much needed overhaul and modernising the in-car tech.

We took the time to fit all speakers into factory locations, 3D printing some one-off tweeter mounts for the front door trims to replicate the OEM tweeter mounting, making sure all our wiring was as non-invasive as possible, and selecting the Kenwood head unit as a modern take on the original BMW navigation screen. Even small details such as 3D printing a hidden mounting system for the DSP controller.
Oh and the subwoofer! The Helix 10” slim sub is totally hidden under the boot floor in a custom-made fibreglass box, so there is absolutely ZERO impact to boot space!

The complete system features Audison Prima speakers all around, Helix Impact 10” slimline subwoofer, Kenwood DMX8521S head unit, and Match UP 6DSP 6ch DSP amplifier to power the whole system and give us total tuning capability to make it sound as good as possible!

Needless to say the audio system is now more than worthy of taking the old M3 for weekend getaways or a spirited drive up the Old Pac ;)

Corey came to us with 2 simple requests for his Next-Gen Ford Raptor;
1. He wanted a quieter cabin
2. He wanted more bass
.... we reckon we nailed this one!

The roof, doors and rear wall were all treated with STP Black Gold high performance sound deadener to kill all vibrations and drumming noises, with STP Biplast open cell foam insulation also added to absorb any external noises passing through (and keep the cabin temp cooler).
The end effect is absolutely worth it, with a FAR quieter cabin, less road & wind noise coming in, and virtually zero rattles inside the cab.

And then we delivered the bass!
We were able to use his Audison SR1.500 mono amp from his previous system, and used it to power the incredible Hertz Mille Pro slim 10" sub fitted in a behind-seat sub box, with remote bass k**b in the centre console.

The end result?
☑️🔉 BIG BASS from such little space!!
☑️ A massively quieter cabin
☑️ Less noise & wind noise
☑️ Cooler cabin in summer
☑️ Improved performance from the factory B&O speakers

Richie just wasn’t loving the audio in his Land Rover Defender, and was tearing his hair out with all the rattling and buzzes coming from the doors. 😫
Despite having the Meridian factory audio system, the quality just wasn't there, and the rattles in the doors just made the car feel cheap.

So he brought it in for us to fix it!

We removed the factory door speakers (3 in each door; woofer, mid, tweeter), and upgraded them all with some lovely Helix Compose i5 replacements, complete with Helix flex-mount adaptors for a factory-fit install.
Now the audio truly sings with some amazing details, increased clarity, and far more midrange power. 🔉🎶

Then there’s the doors!! This is one of those vehicles that’s SCREAMING for some sound deadening treatment!!
We stripped all 4 doors down, deadened the outer door skins with Morel Acudamp 227 deadener & STP Aeroflex closed cell insulation.
The big plastic inner door panels were all then strategically deadened, insulated, and treated with open cell acoustic foam to eliminate all the buzzles and rattles.

The result...
✅ Much clearer and cleaner sound reproduction
✅ More powerful midrange and punchier mid-bass kick
✅ No buzzes and rattles in the doors
✅ A quieter cabin with far less road noise
✅ An audio system that can be turned up and thoroughly enjoyed

Nick is gearing up for some big touring trips, and being a bit of an audiophile he knew what he wanted - to chuck out the lacklustre factory JBL system, and get the superb clarity and detail one can only get from a set of Focal Utopias with their Beryllium tweeters, and the tuning control of the highly regarded Helix P SIX Ultimate DSP amplifier..... 🔊🔊
.. but of course that's just the tip of the iceberg here 😎

We set about building an audio system that will make those long outback roads melt into any playlist, we've blocked the noise of the outside world with a comprehensive sound deadening & insulation treatment, and fitted a completely hidden custom lithium dual battery setup to take care of those outback power needs.

We've been pretty quiet on the socials lately, due in part to undergoing some minor Reno's inside the shop to increase our workshop space... But mostly because we've been pretty solidly booked for the last few months!

Anyway, here's a quick snapshot of some of the recent Apple Carplay/Android Auto upgrades we've done....

Even though we are a "car" audio business, we still work on trucks, trailers, boats, 4WDs, caravans..... basically anything mobile!
Case in point, this tidy ski boat we fixed up recently....

The previous audio system had died, so we fitted some new Kicker Marine 8" tower speakers, a Stinger Marine 4ch amp to power the towers and the existing sub (that will be replaced in the new year), and new wiring throughout to get the system up and running reliably again.

Now its ready to blast the tunes up and down the Hawkesbury all summer!
