To all my loyal customers and followers, the last few months (few years actually) have been quite a challenge. I have had extended periods off work due to health battles as some of you know, and I am excited to be returning to work in the next few weeks.

I do have some news however…

Approx 2 years ago I was looking to open up a workshop and expand.
It has always been a dream of mine to have a roof and a big sign and be proud of how hard I have worked to get to where I am. Unfortunately my health has thrown a few spanners in the works as they say and I have come to the realization that I am just not as physically capable anymore and this dream of mine is slowly fading into the distance.
As most of you know I had to work from home, and that worked but it was far from ideal.

Of course I can’t let that dream slip away! This industry is my passion, my life and my happy place.
The only way I can make it work for myself, my family and my health is if I slow down, and unfortunately the face paced lifestyle and demands of Sydney just isn’t accommodating.

My family and I have made the decision to relocate to the Gold Coast in QLD where we have more support and a new start will force me to slow down.

Hills Car Audio will be relocating with me, and I look forward to building the business from the ground up again.
It’ll be slow, but I will finally be able to make my dream come true, the workshop, the big sign and a place to call home.

Bitter sweet I know, and it’s not going to be easy but It will give me a chance to be able to follow my dream whilst looking after myself and my families best interests.

Thankyou all so much for the love and support you have all given me over the years here in the hills district, without my customers I would have nothing.

New hybrid and EVs are becoming more difficult to work with in regards to available power for accessories. Many manufacturers are making life hard for us stereo enthusiasts, but with the right product and an experienced installer you can still get an awesome stereo upgrade.

This brand new Toyota RAV4 had an awful factory sound. The customer came to me wanting a modest upgrade without a subwoofer but still wanted to get the most out of it as possible.

From previous experience I knew that the Morel Tempo Ultra series speakers had unbelievable frequency response right down to sub bass territory, and with the right DSP amplifier and tuning, paired with correct installation techniques, sound treatment and attention to detail we could get this RAV sounding amazing.

Boy did it not disappoint!!
The Match UP6 DSP amplifier was chosen to actively power the speakers (for those unaware, this means power each speaker individually without crossovers allowing full EQ and time alignment of each speaker individually).
These amps are designed specifically to drive 6 channels, assuming 4 speakers and a small subwoofer. Instead, I used the more powerful subwoofer channels to drive 90w rms to the deserving Tempo Ultra front woofers, and the remaining 4 channels sent 60w rms to the tweeters and rear speakers.

I was truly surprised how awesome this sounded at realistic volume levels. Incredible frequency response, buttery smooth high end and a lovely staged sound.

What’s most important however is that the vehicle is happy with the power requirements, and the beauty of this amp is the efficiency using a max of only 30 amps.
Of course I installed it in a stealth manner with everything tied to factory looms, custom 3D printed tweeter mounts, custom made plug and play harness so no wiring modified behind the dash which keeps Toyota happy on a warranty level.

Another awesome 76 series completed.
The customer loved the build that was done last year but wanted to go one step further with the second one.
This time we used a Helix DSP amplifier and dedicated Helix mono sub amp to power the all new Audison Voce 12” slim sub. The rest was a carbon copy of the previous system as it worked so well.
Audison Voce series speakers run active from the DSP, custom door pods from the guys at Tbass in Queensland, Sony XAVAX6000 head unit to keep the factory look, and a top to bottom carbuilders and Morel premium 227 combo sound treatment.

They are a labour of love, and I do like seeing the end result time and time again.

Sometimes simplicity is best.
You don’t have to spend the earth to get a nice audio upgrade.
Speaking to a knowledgeable audio specialist is key. As I work with the product all day every day, I know what works well together and can put together a package to suit any budget.

This RAV4 is a prime example.

-ESB 1000 series speakers all round
-Hertz CBA250 10” compact sub/amp with bass control k**b
-Focal BAM deadening
-Kicker Key DSP Amplifier to make it all integrate nicely.

Of course a lot of the end result is due to a quality installation.
-All speakers sealed between all surfaces, and foam speaker rings to seal against the door card.
-Tweeters mounted in custom 3D printed adapters using factory screws
-Amp mounted securely and easy to access, wiring all secured and wrapped for protection, and of course circuit protection is a must.
-Deadening cut neatly and rolled on to the surface for maximum adhesion.

Is your 200 series in need of an upgrade? Have you been told there is nothing available for the Sahara?
Has your whole system become a brick from one of the components failing?
Well there is! This 2012 Sahara received the upgrade package from aerpro. Retains all factory features except for the CD/DVD (who uses those nowdays right?)
This vehicle had a faulty roof screen which renders the amplifier useless as well as they use the same MOST network. I bypassed the factory amp and rewired the speaker to the correct load and run them from the new unit.

Developed for BMW owners who demand a superior, high-fidelity upgrade without altering their vehicle and designed with meticulous attention to acoustic detail and engineering excellence, this system integrates seamlessly into BMW interiors, enhancing clarity, balance, and depth while preserving the vehicle’s original aesthetics.
This BMW 750i had the Harman Kardon “premium” system, which didn’t impress at all.
All 15 speakers were upgraded to the beautifully crafted French drivers from Focal.
You can’t perform such a high end upgrade without improving the signal source. The German made industry leading solution for this is the Match DSP amplifier, handling all multi channels effortlessly and allowing full tuning of EQ and time alignment of each channel.
Don’t let its size fool you, 65w RMS is delivered to each speaker and a whopping 160w rms to the under seat woofers. The input signal is provided by a MOST to optical device for the cleanest possible source.
A bit of time was spent making up a custom ABS rack to house the amp and signal converter to allow optimal cable management and maximum airflow.

Close your eyes and you could swear the artist was sitting on the center of the bonnet, surrounded by the band.
What a treat it was to work on this car and auditioning the new system was a real pleasure, I couldn’t stop flicking through the music library for the next classic.

If you’ve dropped in over the last month you may have seen the white HZ Holden Ute I’ve been working on slowly.
To say this was a challenge is a massive understatement, and I can tell you I put in more than double the hours I expected, but it eventually payed off.
These old work horses have a terrible stereo, and the worst part is there is just no room to put anything.
Yeah I could’ve settled for an off the shelf under seat sub and been disappointed with it, or I could spend 16 hours building a pair of stupidly complex enclosures with more angles than a protractor. Not just two the same, but one mirror image!!
Well, what can I say. After firing it up today I had a huge smile on my face, and so did the customer.
The two Audison Prima 8” subs absolutely blew me away. Deep thumping bass.
So how do we power these? A match UP1FX with a whopping 900w rms at 1ohm. Pair that with a Match UP4 DSP to run an active pair of component speakers and you have a great sounding stereo.

Component speakers in an HZ you ask? Yep but no hacking holes in the door cards here. No, let’s get the worlds slimmest speaker the Morel Virtus Nano and make them fit in the kick panels!

Now why do we need a DSP in an old ute? “Why not” would be my first answer, but the real reason is to improve the signal coming from the retrosound stereo that was fitted up. Looks old school but far from it . Bluetooth, DAB radio, and a screen hidden behind the fake dials.
Fitting the amp and DSP was another challenge. I ended up making a small amp rack and bolting it under the dash in some existing holes.

Huge challenge, huge reward.
