Developed for BMW owners who demand a superior, high-fidelity upgrade without altering their vehicle and designed with meticulous attention to acoustic detail and engineering excellence, this system integrates seamlessly into BMW interiors, enhancing clarity, balance, and depth while preserving the vehicle’s original aesthetics.
This BMW 750i had the Harman Kardon “premium” system, which didn’t impress at all.
All 15 speakers were upgraded to the beautifully crafted French drivers from Focal.
You can’t perform such a high end upgrade without improving the signal source. The German made industry leading solution for this is the Match DSP amplifier, handling all multi channels effortlessly and allowing full tuning of EQ and time alignment of each channel.
Don’t let its size fool you, 65w RMS is delivered to each speaker and a whopping 160w rms to the under seat woofers. The input signal is provided by a MOST to optical device for the cleanest possible source.
A bit of time was spent making up a custom ABS rack to house the amp and signal converter to allow optimal cable management and maximum airflow.

Close your eyes and you could swear the artist was sitting on the center of the bonnet, surrounded by the band.
What a treat it was to work on this car and auditioning the new system was a real pleasure, I couldn’t stop flicking through the music library for the next classic.

If you’ve dropped in over the last month you may have seen the white HZ Holden Ute I’ve been working on slowly.
To say this was a challenge is a massive understatement, and I can tell you I put in more than double the hours I expected, but it eventually payed off.
These old work horses have a terrible stereo, and the worst part is there is just no room to put anything.
Yeah I could’ve settled for an off the shelf under seat sub and been disappointed with it, or I could spend 16 hours building a pair of stupidly complex enclosures with more angles than a protractor. Not just two the same, but one mirror image!!
Well, what can I say. After firing it up today I had a huge smile on my face, and so did the customer.
The two Audison Prima 8” subs absolutely blew me away. Deep thumping bass.
So how do we power these? A match UP1FX with a whopping 900w rms at 1ohm. Pair that with a Match UP4 DSP to run an active pair of component speakers and you have a great sounding stereo.

Component speakers in an HZ you ask? Yep but no hacking holes in the door cards here. No, let’s get the worlds slimmest speaker the Morel Virtus Nano and make them fit in the kick panels!

Now why do we need a DSP in an old ute? “Why not” would be my first answer, but the real reason is to improve the signal coming from the retrosound stereo that was fitted up. Looks old school but far from it . Bluetooth, DAB radio, and a screen hidden behind the fake dials.
Fitting the amp and DSP was another challenge. I ended up making a small amp rack and bolting it under the dash in some existing holes.

Huge challenge, huge reward.

Today was a fun little upgrade to a Suzuki Swift Sport.
A great little package was put together consisting of Audison Prima speakers all round, Kicker key DSP amplifier, a hertz 10” down firing subwoofer and the doors treated with Focal BAM deadening. A Thinkware 4K dashcam was also installed for piece of mind.

Fantastic sound quality upgrade with some beautifully balanced low end to compliment it all.

It has been years since I’ve worked on this generation of Subaru, and this Legacy was a beauty!
Freshly imported, but very lacking in modern tech.
A Sony 6000 replaced the Japanese Carrozzeria unit and a reverse camera was addded for convenience.
The customer likes his sound quality and requested Focal Flax components, wanting front stage only. The doors were treated with Focal BAM and a Focal impulse amp was put in place of the McIntoch factory amp.
It wasn’t all fun though, being a near 30 year old import it had its fair share of surprises, but a great result in the end. The Flax fit perfectly in the doors with some 3D printed spacers and the tweeters just squeezed into the factory locations.

If your factory speakers have stopped working like in this Honda, you don’t have to spend the earth to get up and running again.
Although I love nothing more than upgrading sound systems, sometimes a simple replacement is all that’s needed.

Out with the old and in with the new 9” Kenwood DMX7509XDS with its HD screen, wireless CarPlay and android auto, it looked right at home in this Lancer.

If that isn’t enough, there’s the new Kenwood DMX7509XDS 9” floating screen with wireless CarPlay and android auto, HD screen, DAB radio and idatalink ready.

9” too big? The Kenwood DMX7525S in dash receiver also has wireless CarPlay and Android Auto as well as an HD screen and idatalink ready.

One of the jobs today was a nice simple upgrade in a Kia Rio. The Kenwood DMX6523DABS with wireless CarPlay and android auto, DAB radio, Bluetooth etc with an added reverse camera and retention of the vehicles steering controls and USB socket.

Suzuki Jimny’s are proving to be a very popular vehicle to upgrade due to their average factory stereo, and the fact that it doesn’t take much to get a great sounding system.

The first step is getting rid of the troublesome stereo Suzuki provide, and install a quality aftermarket unit like this 9” offering from pioneer.

Step 2 is a little bit of sound treatment to the doors and external panels as we all know how these sound like a Milo tin inside.

Step 3 is a speaker upgrade. I’ve done many combinations in these Jimny’s but always find myself going back to the Audison Prima range. The factory 4” door speakers are replaced with 5” components on custom mounts, and some 5” coaxials added to the rear quarter panels in factory locations (which are empty!).

Step 4 is optional but highly recommended. Adding power! In this case the customer already had a Hertz 5 channel amplifier and a Helix DSP mini from a previous build so we used that to give maximum tuning power.

Step 5 really gets things moving with an audison 8” subwoofer in custom sub box under the drivers seat. Fiddly to build due to the shape, but adds such a nice deep bass that you just can’t get from an “underseat” offering.

This sounded phenomenal and once again put a huge smile on the customers face.
