Mercedes Sprinter in Limp Mode? A Blocked DPF Could Be the Problem

This Mercedes-Benz Sprinter came into Progressive Vans struggling to accelerate and stuck in limp mode.

With the DPF heavily restricted, our workshop was able to handle the entire job in-house:

✅ Remove the DPF from the vehicle
✅ Inspect the filter
✅ Professionally clean the DPF using our dedicated cleaning equipment
✅ Check the results
✅ Refit the DPF to the Sprinter
✅ Get the vehicle back on the road

🔧 Why blast a DPF with a pressure hose when it can be professionally cleaned?

At Progressive Vans, we regularly clean DPFs for mechanics, workshops and roadworthy centres across Melbourne’s south-east.

There’s a big difference between washing a DPF out with a high-pressure hose and putting it through a purpose-built DPF cleaning machine.

Our machine uses Air Pulse Technology, combining controlled air pulses with the cleaning process to work through the DPF filter channels and remove accumulated contamination without relying on aggressive high-pressure water being blasted directly into the internal filter structure.

That matters because the internal DPF substrate is something you want to clean properly, not damage while trying to unblock it.

And we don’t just clean it and tell you it looks better.

We offer professional DPF cleaning for cars, vans and commercial vehicles right here at Progressive Vans.

The photos and videos here show the filter being professionally cleaned in our DPF cleaning equipment — not just sprayed out or given a quick chemical treatment.

Our DPF cleaning options:

Off-car DPF clean — $660
Remove the DPF yourself and bring it into us.

Includes:

Professional off-car DPF wash
Before and after flow testing
Flow test printout
Before and after internal photos
Proper workshop cleaning process

We remove, clean and refit — $995 to $1,395
If you’d rather leave the whole job to us, our workshop can remove the DPF, clean it properly and refit it to the vehicle.

This Transit had water in the oil, indicating a possible head gasket issue. After confirming our suspicions, we where able to remove and refit a new cylinder head to this Transit and have it back on the road with minimal downtime

The old Cylinder head had suffered a crack that wasn’t economical to repair and due to extreme heat had become soft and not usable.
