This week a local lady contacted me to see if I could take on her three elderly pigs that mean the world to her. Already got my hands full here but she really needed to get them out of their current home asap due to an unsafe environment for the animals to live in.
She had exhausted all other options to rehome and didn’t want to offer them out for free for obvious reasons.

To help, I agreed to take them. I have already started building extra fencing this week.

The lady then put a public post on the local community social media pages to see if anyone could help with transporting the pigs to Eventide.

The next day, Bio Security Tasmania decided to send me a large email all about my responsibilities with registrations and paperwork for all the animals here and all the paperwork I need to complete . They highlighted pigs, funny as I don’t have any pigs currently.
More permits, more paperwork and more payments to complete. All from a rescue sanctuary earning little in Winter.

Sadly, I don’t think the timing of the email was a coincidence, I believe someone saw the lady reach out for assistance to get the pigs here and decided the best thing to achieve in their day was to call bio security. All this has done is now delayed the pigs being moved to safety. Well done.

A few weeks earlier, bio security asked me for some pictures of the young calves after someone told them they are skinny, (please bear in mind Helga and George are probably the most spoilt calves you could meet) sent the pictures they needed and was told they were ok but they still decided to turn up unannounced, the very next morning with an entire team of them and demand I let them in to view the world’s fattest and happiest cows.

Had to cancel the public tour I was on and refund the tour to the people who had paid to visit Eventide due to the bio team turning up unannounced and saying they can’t wait. The tours is how I fund the place to pay for animal feed. Ironic they make me cancel it and then check I’m feeding the animals enough.
They had a look around and were satisfied with everything again.

Before this, they also contacted me due to me taking goats to the local daycare centre for the children to meet, if I did it again I would have to fill out forms to register the journey as a livestock movement! To take a couple of goats or lambs to meet some young children for an hour. The same forms that huge cattle trucks need to submit! 🤦‍♂️
To save all the hassle and nonsense I cancelled all upcoming animal visits to local schools.

I just wish one of these government departments would get in touch one day with assistance to help me run the sanctuary instead of the constant extra things they want from me.

I have reached out to local MP’s and even gone in their Sorell offices in person multiple times to offer them a look at what I do here and none of them have taken up my offer or even got back to me.

The journey of running the sanctuary really gets to me at times.

Thanks for reading.

Happy but hard day today, beautiful Ollie and Molly have gone to the most perfect permanent home. Hard to see them leave after putting so much effort into raising them but happy to find a nice forever home.

That’s left little Max here by himself but he gets to hang out with me and Wally now so I don’t think he is too worried!

Update: Ollie has found a lovely new forever home. 🥰

Could you welcome Ollie into your home and heart?

Ollie is nearly ready to begin weaning off his bottle in a few weeks and as much as I’m completely attached to this special pea-brained idiot I know it would be a beautiful time for a special new home to bond with him.

I have raised Ollie since only a few days old and he is a beautiful lad.
He is desexed, docked and drenched.

He must go to a loving home with other sheep who can guarantee he will never go for consumption.

He will come with an adoption fee to assist with the costs of running the sanctuary and raising him.

If anyone can help with the costs of raising this years orphan lambs (including replacing all the toilet rolls Ollie has eaten!!) details are below, thank you. 🙏

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to help Eventide Sanctuary with hoof trimming?? 🙏

Would really love some help to set up a regular cycle of hoof care for the horses, ponies and donkeys at Eventide, Carlton River.
All friendly and very tame animals.

Currently have ad hoc care in place but would love some help to see if anyone would be willing to assist the sanctuary on a regular basis.

Pro bono help would be incredible but not expected, sanctuary costs are huge and assistance in anyway would be so appreciated. There is lots I can help with in return if required.

I can halter and assist if needed or leave you to it if preferred.

Please share to anyone that you feel might like to help.

Thank you. 🙏

At this point I think poor Wally has just given up!
