Volkswagen began in 1937 in Germany as the "people's car". A few decades later, the humble Beetle arrived, an air cooled, quirky, stubbornly reliable car.

From the iconic Kombi vans of the 1960s, to the hot hatch legend that is the Golf GTI, VW built its reputation on clever engineering, everyday practicality and a wee bit of German attitude.

Somewhere out there, a 20 year old Gold with 300,000km on the clock is still refusing to die.

Did you ever wonder what the famous BMW logo is?

Many folks believe the BMW badge is a spinning airplane propeller. That's because BMW started out as an aircraft engine manufacturer in Germany in 1916. After WWI, Germany was banned from producing aircraft engines under the Treaty of Versailles, so they pivoted into motorcycles and eventually, automobiles.

While aviation influenced the brand, the blue and white colours actually originate from the Bavarian flag.
