🚗 How do I know when my tyres are worn out?

A tread depth gauge is the easiest way to check. Simply place the gauge into the main grooves of your tyre tread and take a reading.

Low tread can reduce grip, increase stopping distance and make driving in wet conditions more dangerous. Also check for uneven wear, cracks, bulges or visible tread wear indicators.

Not sure what you’re looking at? Drop into Cannonvale Tyrepower and our friendly team can check your tyres for you.

What Do Those Numbers on Your Tyre Actually Mean?

Ever looked at the side of your tyre and wondered what all those numbers and letters mean?

Take this tyre for example:

215/60R17 96H

It might look like a random code, but every number and letter tells a story about your tyre.

Here's what it means:
🛞 215 – The tyre's width in millimetres.
📏 60 – The aspect ratio. The sidewall height is 60% of the tyre's width.
⚙️ R – Radial construction (used on almost all modern passenger vehicles).
⭕ 17 – The wheel (rim) diameter in inches.
💪 96 – The load index. This indicates how much weight each tyre is designed to carry.
🏁 H – The speed rating. This is the maximum speed the tyre is designed to handle when correctly inflated and loaded.

But there's more information hidden on your tyre sidewall, including:

• Vehicle tyre type (Passenger or Light Truck)
• Maximum tyre pressure (PSI)
• DOT safety markings
• Manufacturing information

Knowing your tyre size makes replacing your tyres much easier and helps ensure you choose the right tyre for your vehicle and the way you drive.

Whether you're commuting every day, towing a caravan, heading off-road or simply driving around the Whitsundays, choosing the correct tyre is important for safety, performance and tyre life.

If you're ever unsure what the numbers on your tyres mean, drop into Cannonvale Tyrepower. We'll happily explain them and help you find the right tyre for your vehicle.

🚗💙 International Youth Day – 12 August

Today we’re celebrating the young people in our community — including those gaining independence and confidence behind the wheel.

At Cannonvale Tyres, we know that learning to drive is about more than passing a test. It’s about building safe habits that last a lifetime.

For young drivers, a few simple checks can make a big difference:
🛞 Check your tyre pressure regularly
👀 Keep an eye on tread depth and tyre condition
🚗 Know how your vehicle feels and sounds
📵 Stay focused and distraction-free behind the wheel

To all the young drivers around the Whitsundays — stay safe, keep learning, and enjoy the journey.

Happy International Youth Day!

“You wouldn’t believe what we’ve pulled out of tyres at Cannonvale Tyrepower…”

Things that belong in a tyre: Air.
Things that don’t: Pretty much everything in this photo. 😂

This little collection has all been pulled from punctured tyres recently.

Some are obvious. Others make you wonder, “How on earth did that get in there?”

A small piece of debris can quickly turn into a flat tyre, so if you notice a slow leak, your tyre pressure dropping, or something stuck in the tread, it’s worth getting it checked before it becomes a bigger problem.

Got a slow leak or suspicious-looking object in your tyre? Get it checked before it leaves you stuck.

Come in and see the team at Cannonvale Tyrepower and we'll get that leak fixed in no time.

🪜🌳 KEV’S TAKING AN UNPLANNED PIT STOP! 🛞

It turns out “ladder + chainsaw + tree limb” wasn’t quite the winning combination Kevin had in mind. 😬🌳

The good news is Kev is on the mend and recovering well. In the meantime, we’re running a little short-staffed, with the rest of the Cannonvale Tyrepower crew powered by teamwork, caffeine and a highly questionable amount of optimism. ☕😂

Please bear with us if we can’t answer the phone straight away. Give us another try, leave a message where possible, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

A huge thank you for your patience, understanding and all the well wishes sent Kev’s recuperating. We really appreciate the support from our wonderful community.

And yes… Kevin is officially banned from ladders and chainsaws. 🪚🪜

Why Is My Steering Wheel Shaking?

Have you ever noticed your steering wheel vibrating at certain speeds?

It's one of the most common questions we're asked—and it's usually your vehicle's way of telling you something isn't quite right.

A shaking steering wheel can be caused by a number of things, including:

🛞 Wheel Balancing – Even a small imbalance can create vibrations, particularly at highway speeds.

⚙️ Uneven Tyre Wear – Worn or damaged tyres can affect how smoothly your vehicle drives.

💨 Incorrect Tyre Pressures – Something as simple as the wrong tyre pressure can impact the way your tyres contact the road.

📐 Wheel Alignment or Suspension Issues – Hitting a pothole or kerb can knock your vehicle out of alignment and affect handling.

The good news? In many cases, it's a straightforward fix—once the real cause has been identified.

At Cannonvale Tyrepower, we don't guess. We inspect your tyres and wheels, explain what's causing the vibration, and recommend the best solution to get you driving smoothly and safely again.

Honest Advice. Friendly Service. Professional Workmanship.

From Perth to the Whitsundays — and safely back on the road! 🚐🛞

These travellers called into Cannonvale Tyrepower while touring Australia with their caravan after noticing their tyres were getting old and one was badly worn.

Kevin inspected the existing tyres, checked the required load capacity and recommended a set of RAZR AT-S tyres to suit their caravan and travelling needs.

The tyres were ordered on Friday, fitted first thing Tuesday morning and the team had them back on the road in around 20 minutes.

While they were here, Rodney and the team also:

✅ Explained how the new tyres should be fitted
✅ Checked the tyre pressures on both the caravan and 4WD
✅ Provided advice for safer towing
✅ Cleaned the wheels and tyres
✅ Backed the caravan out and had everything ready for the next leg of their journey

This is what we love about looking after travellers — taking the time to listen, provide honest advice and make sure they leave feeling safe and confident.

Thank you for the incredible review and for trusting Cannonvale Tyrepower to keep your journey rolling.

Safe travels around Australia! 🇦🇺
