Our clients are at the heart of what we do, so we want to be open about a very short term change.

This is an unprecedented time in the Australian EV market. We know many people across the country are finding it difficult to secure a new or pre owned EV within a reasonable timeframe, as current global conditions continue to affect local supply.

With both new and quality used EV availability remaining exceptionally tight nationally, and with an extremely high volume of clients already working with us at present, we have made the decision to temporarily pause our new vehicle sourcing enquiries for the next few weeks only.

This is a temporary response to current market conditions, made to protect the quality of service and outcomes our clients know us for. In a market like this, supply constraints create the risk of false promises, and that is simply not how we operate.
We would rather be upfront about what is realistically possible than take on additional enquiries without being able to deliver to the standard and timeframe they deserve.

For our existing clients, of course nothing changes. Your journey with us remains on track!

If you would like to join our waiting list, please let us know and you will hear from us shortly. At the same time, we would never want to be a barrier to your transition to an EV, so if the right opportunity presents itself outside our trusted network, we absolutely encourage you to explore it.

We are hopeful that market supply conditions will begin to return to normal over the coming weeks and, we look forward to welcoming new clients again as soon as possible.

We sincerely appreciate the trust, support and enquiries we continue to receive it means the world to us. Thank you for your understanding.

For over a decade, I’ve had a front-row seat to Australia’s transition to electric vehicles. Way back, we took a huge risk with Ion DNA, becoming the first company in the country to exclusively offer pre-owned EVs from the UK and Japan. We did it to give Australians a real choice, long before the big brands thought a market even existed. Since then, we’ve helped hundreds of families and businesses make the switch.

That’s why I’m concerned that a national road user charge could put the brakes on progress just as the transition is finding steady ground.

The government’s pitch is simple: fuel excise revenue is drying up, so we need a new way to fund roads. But that logic misses two key points. First, transparency. Drivers already feel like they’re paying for roads that are falling apart. I’ve spent countless hours on the Hume dodging potholes between Canberra, the Illawarra, and Sydney. Fuel excise doesn’t go straight into roads; it disappears into general revenue. If we’re going to introduce a new charge, it should be dedicated and transparent so people can actually see where their money is going.

Second, foresight. With the High Court striking down state-based road charges, a federal scheme is the only option left. But a rushed national tax risks becoming politically charged and short-sighted. Industry voices, including the Electric Vehicle Council, have been clear: don’t tax EV drivers until they make up a significant portion of the market.

Meanwhile, the real barrier for Australians is happening right now. Public charging prices are becoming a rip-off, with some networks charging up to 90 cents per kilowatt-hour. In a regulated fuel market, drivers would never accept petrol selling anywhere between $1.80 and $6 a litre depending on the servo. Yet that’s what we’re tolerating with EV charging. Without proper oversight, this “Wild West” risks undermining confidence and leaving those without home charging at the mercy of profiteering.

This isn’t about spreadsheets, it’s about people. The EV owners I know aren’t wealthy trend-followers jumping on a Tesla bandwagon. They’re families, tradies, and small business operators who’ve made real sacrifices to lower costs and reduce their environmental footprint. They’ve done it strategically, not out of FOMO, and they’re the ones who will be hit hardest by a poorly conceived tax.

The better path is obvious. Create a dedicated, transparent road fund that all drivers contribute to. Regulate the charging industry now, before prices spiral further out of control. Give everyday Australians the confidence that the shift to electric is practical, affordable, and fair.

Australia’s move to sustainable transport has been built not by government but by early adopters and ordinary people. If it’s going to succeed, it must be supported by smart, transparent policy, not a rushed tax that punishes the very people driving the change.

**Sound On** Driving back to Canberra early this morning, we get to the first roundabout at Brindabella Business Park and my brain nearly exploded. And ... poor Rob gets served the standard uncontextual outburst from me that he’s accustomed to, this times gem being “Pull over, pull over, there’s a SmartFlower”. 🤪

Anywho, the legend that he is, he pulls over, chucks the hazards on and no doubt invites every EV sceptic within eyeshot to assume we’d broken down or were imminently about to burst into flames. This was by no means helped by the fact I then bolted back up the road like a paparazzi who’d just spotted Beyoncé with freshly signed divorce papers from JZ. 😂

And … there it was. Hello SmarFlower!

I ended up chattitng with Byron from Abundant Power Solutions in Yass this afternoon and discovered that they’re bringing these exclusivelly to Australia in partnership with 180 Smart Energy. This one in Pialligo is the first in the country and they've been rolling out nationally for a while, with a few more available for viewing in Victorian locations in the coming weeks.

From what I understand the SmartfFlower can be configured with the same BES you have or, are planning for. If you're off-grid, the SmartFlower may be worth considering for your EV Ecosystem. Give Byron and Lea from Abundant a call to find out more - 1300 457 877.

The federal government has just launched ev.gov.au, a national information hub for Australians thinking about going electric.

It’s practical and well laid out. If you're new to EVs, you’ll find clear explainers on ownership, running costs, charging, and what to expect day to day. For apartment owners, renters or strata committees, there’s guidance on shared charging and how to make it work.

Fleet managers and infrastructure providers can access tools to plan smarter charging networks, including a national map that shows where chargers are needed based on traffic, power supply and public access.

It also pulls together state and federal incentives so you can easily check what support is available where you live.

A good step in the right direction. Take a look: https://www.ev.gov.au

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to them and their cultures and to the elders past and present.
