We want to continue to lead climate action in Australia, by using our 100% renewable electricity to transform Canberra into the Electric Vehicle Capital.

Here you can see Karl Goiser, who registered one of the very first electric vehicles in the ACT in 2011, with Peter McNeil who recently registered the 1000th battery electric vehicle on our roads. Since then, even more Canberrans have embraced an EV, bringing the total to over 1200.

It's getting easier to throw out broken technology, and harder to repair it — but an Australian movement is pushing back

A movement of people who want the 'right to repair' their own technology is growing in Australia, but we are playing catch-up on the global stage.

We’ve got great news: second hand electric vehicles will be included in our new Government EV incentives, not just brand new vehicles.

That means that people purchasing a second hand EV (or a new one):

💲 can apply for an interest free loan of up to $15K.
⚡ can receive 2 years of free vehicle registration.

It’s important that we include second-hand electric vehicles in these schemes to ensure it's not just people who can afford a brand new car who benefit from government incentives. It helps bring the cheaper running costs of EVs to more people, as well as the environmental benefits.

And more great news: The loans will also be available for installing home charging infrastructure to charge EVs.

These EV incentives are part of the broader Sustainable Home Loan Scheme, which will make $15K interest free loans available to households to purchase solar panels, home batteries, efficient electric appliances, or zero emission vehicles (now including second hand and charging infrastructure).

The scheme has not commenced and is going through design - but you can now register your interest for the scheme at this link → https://form.act.gov.au/smartforms/servlet/SmartForm.html?formCode=1591

The ACT is striving towards net zero emissions by 2045, and working with the community on clean, sustainable transport is a key part of that.

20/02/2021

Many of the world’s major car manufacturers will stop making internal combustion engine vehicles in the next decade. Some as soon as 2025.

They’re taking climate action, and so are we.

From this May, the ACT Government will waive the first two years of rego fees on newly purchased zero-emissions vehicles (new or second hand).

This is one of the many practical ways we’re helping with the transition to zero-emissions transport.

I was wondering if anyone could point me to a website or platform or event where I could get comprehensive information on all passenger Electric vehicles that are available in Australia. I have been researching so many platforms just to get a handle on which car to buy and haven't been able to collate all the information or reach a decision. Anyone else feels the same? Anyone feels there are some credible websites or documents that I could rely on in this case?
I'll be traveling with a friend to Canberra on 1-2 of May. It would be nice to have a look at what Drifttech / Phill Pratt / Damian are up to - I've tried to get in touch via facebook - any other suggestions?
Tesla NEWEST EV Batteries vs Solid State Lithium Metal Batteries:
Hi EVC (we are up the road in Holt), we have just bought an EV at an auction in Japan. We won this auction a bit over a week ago in Nagoya. It will roughly cost us $45000-$46000, by the time we get it to Canberra in August. We are going through the import process from Japan, to acquire a Nissan LEAF ZE1 62kWh (SOH 98.5), not available locally. And the great thing is, that when we charge it in Canberra, it will be from renewable power generation. We have setup a Twitter page @EV4ME2, to show everybody our journey importing a EV from Japan. The paperwork, the emails, etc. When things have to be done, we will tweet what we have done. All in chronological order, every couple of days We have also setup a youtube channel EV4ME, showing our journey as well. (Upload every couple of weeks) This is not about the car, its an idiot's guide (Myself and Shane, being the idiots) to the process. It will be somewhere in between a success or failure... Imagine not having much money, and being able to purchase a 40kWh LEAF from Japan for between $34k-$37k. Instead of buying a new one for $54k. Not everybody has a lot of money. This is another way of buying a second hand LEAF, even when there is a very, very small second hand market locally. It's all about getting more everyday people in EV's cheaply. Its about equality to access new technology... New Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21w4rqB4rTU Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8dLqmN0lFBwkbrSSF3YwqQ Twitter: @EV4ME2 Cheers Kaz and Shane Check it out if interested.
