Well, it's been a wild month and a bit...
Went down to Alligator to try and give her a proper test run before Mackay, and about 30 seconds off the trailer, the car was breaking down like it was hot. We found out we blew a massive hole in the sump and the side of the block, therefore throwing rods out in a big way.
In the next week, our amazing friends Shayno Collyer and Tynelle Collyer at SKC Motorsports had the car and spent the week slapping a new donk in it. He got it together and had a couple of little issues with it, and we thought, "Oh well, she's running mint, let's go see how we go."
We made it, Mackay, with no dramas at all, which was a real surprise for me π€£. But we spent the next 12 hours trying to get this thing to work, with it running less and less as the day went by. So we pushed it onto the trailer at the end of the night and towed it home.
The next week comes around, and I'm on the phone to Shayno, and he just goes, "Nope, enough of this, get that thing down here, let's sort it out." So, after asking around, an amazing friend of ours, Lawrence Marsterson-Allen , drove all the way from the 'Ville to Come to grab the car and take it back down.
So, as time went by, Shayno found that the car had a couple of earthing issues and also found out that the exhaust cam actually chewed itself out and seized in the head. So, when he changed that out, the car fired right away and then he found a knocking bottom end π. Surprise, surprise, not having a good run so far...
So we managed to get another engine the very next day from J&D Motorsports Townsville, and upon inspection, it looked brand new even though it came out of a skid car. So Shayno got all my upgraded parts on this motor and slipped it in and just breathed on the start button, and it fired right away, sounding crankier than it ever has.
Next on our list was Charters Towers burnouts. We passed scrutineering without any hassles, then got to the pits, checking over a few things. We touched the wiring harness, and the car shut down and wouldn't fire. With the help of multiple people like Nathan Petts , Chris Jewell , and Rob with Cop-Out, we found out that where the old sensor plugs had been chopped off, they were touching the intake, shorting out and blowing fuses. So with that sorted, the car was running mint and off to the lanes for practice. In typical Stockas fashion, we were front of the line, next to go, when we lost all drive, finding all the trans fluid on the ground. π’ Back to the pits we went to put it up on ramps to further investigate. When we got back, all the boys got straight onto it, getting the car up and the trans out, just to find out we couldn't repair it as it had blown an oil pump seal and scored the converter real bad.
Now the best part of the last few weeks is what happened next. Shayno with Toothless - Burnout Car said, "I've got a few extra sets, why don't you give a real car a crack?" So in giving that a go, I managed to snag a 1st place in the V8 class, which was a real surprise considering I haven't driven anyone else's car and never steered a V8 before, so I was definitely chuffed with myself about that. So all in all, it was definitely the best outcome to many weeks down in the dumps with this thing, but hey, once this issue is sorted, we will be ready to be on top once again πͺ
Many thanks to all the people smashing it out in the background unnoticed. I couldn't do it without any of you.
