🚴 Calling all Cairns cyclists – we need your support! 🚴

I’ve spoken with someone involved at Cairns Regional Council about the possibility of having a dedicated cycling criterium track built at the Cairns Showgrounds.

The advice I received was that our best chance of making this happen is for as many people as possible to complete the Council’s survey and specifically mention that you’d like to see a purpose-built criterium cycling track included in the Major Events Precinct Masterplan and Project Validation Report.

A dedicated crit track would provide a safe, purpose-built venue for training, racing, juniors, clubs and the wider cycling community, while helping to grow cycling in our region.

Another solid update from my personal test bike using immersive hot wax with Niestone Pow3r Wax 🔥🚴‍♂️

Current chain mileage: 3,200km
Measured chain wear: 0.09mm (largest reading across the full length of the chain)

For comparison, recommended chain replacement is typically around 0.50mm, so this chain is still showing exceptionally low wear.

At this rate, it’s looking very likely that this chain will comfortably surpass 15,000km+, while the rest of the drivetrain components—cassette, chainrings, and pulleys—can often reach 45,000km+ before replacement is needed.

🚴‍♂️ I’m Riding in the 2026 SU Cycle for Hope 🚴‍♀️

I’m excited to be taking part in the 2026 SU Cycle for Hope, riding to support something that truly matters.

This event directly raises funds for Scripture Union Australia and school chaplaincy programs in schools, helping ensure chaplains can continue to be present for students across our communities.

For many young people, school chaplains are a vital support, someone to talk to, someone who listens, and someone who helps them navigate life’s challenges. This ride helps keep that support available.

It’s not just about cycling kilometres, it’s about helping protect and strengthen a service that makes a real difference in the lives of kids every single day.

I’ll be out on the road taking on the challenge, and I’d love to see more people get involved.

You don’t need to be a serious rider, just willing to show up, give it a go, and support a cause that matters.

Let’s make 2026 the biggest Cycle for Hope yet and help keep chaplains in schools where they’re needed most.
