A significant win for the automotive industry!

Following sustained advocacy from the MTA NSW Group, the Australian Government has expanded the DRIVEN Charger Rebate Program to include support for both EV charging infrastructure and EV-specific workshop equipment.

Eligible automotive dealers and EV repairers can now access rebates of up to $50,000 per eligible site, helping businesses invest in the equipment, tools and safety systems needed to support Australia’s growing EV fleet.

This expanded support is relevant to eligible businesses across NSW and the ACT and reflects our continued advocacy for practical measures that respond to the real costs facing industry.

Last Thursday’s Newcastle Business Forum was a strong opportunity to bring the local automotive industry together, hear from industry partners and continue the conversations that matter across the sector.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Newcastle Museum and contributed to the evening. It was great to see the local industry come together to connect, ask questions and share what they are seeing across the automotive sector.

A special thank you to Dev Anand Dorasamy, Economic Development Lead at .au , for joining us and speaking on the night, as well as to our industry partners for their contribution to the forum.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to attend and look forward to continuing these conversations across the region.

A recent Fair Work Commission decision provides an important reminder for small business employers when managing repeated workplace conduct issues.

In this case, an apprentice’s ongoing personal mobile phone use continued despite previous warnings, ultimately resulting in termination.

The decision highlights the importance of having a valid reason, clearly warning an employee that their employment is at risk, and providing an opportunity to correct the behaviour.

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has supported a Small Business Employer’s decision to cancel an apprenticeship due to the inability of an apprentice to break his dependency on his mobile device during working hours. MTA NSW was at the Skilled Futures Expo at St Columba’s Catholic College, Springwood today, speaking with students about automotive apprenticeships, training and the different career pathways available across the industry.

It was a great chance to answer questions, share some practical insight into the industry and help students better understand where an automotive career could take them.
