Can relate! 😂😂😂
EMPTY SOUL
A Warriors fan has arrived at his Auckland office this morning carrying the hollow feeling of a man who has, in his own words, “lost absolutely everything.”
Jason Holt, 33, was among the close to 50,000 fans packed into Eden Park last night, watching the Warriors’ NRL semi-final hopes disappear in a brutal 12-10 defeat to the Newcastle Knights.
Holt said he had arrived at work physically present but felt like he was not there at all.
“I’m here, technically,” he said. “But I don’t think any part of me has actually arrived.”
“I’ve opened my emails and just stared at them,” he said. “None of it feels important anymore. Some of the emails need tending to, but it feels like nothing matters”
Holt said the hardest part was knowing how close the Warriors had come, before ultimately leaving thousands of fans sitting in stunned silence.
“You spend the whole year thinking about this,” he said. “Then suddenly you’re walking out of Eden Park and it’s over. That’s it.”
By 9.17am, Holt had made a coffee, opened his laptop and completed no meaningful work.
“I’ve got this hollow feeling inside me,” he said. “Like something’s missing.”
He said colleagues had continued with their normal Monday routines, but he was struggling to understand how anyone could simply carry on.
“I watched 80 minutes of Warriors football last night,” Holt said. “How am I supposed to just answer emails this morning?”
Despite the defeat, Holt confirmed he would still support the Warriors next season.
“I’ll be back,” he said. “That’s the worst part.”
