Motoinno

Motoinno MotoinnoTS³ - a measurably more stable, safer, 2 wheel platform, that will literally save lives.

This Australian company has been on a mission for the past decade to redefine the sector, with its unique patented technology. Motoinno - short for Motorcycle Innovation - has developed the ground breaking TS³ (Triangulated Steering and Suspension System) to replace antiquated, dangerous, telescopic forks. Unlike the telescopic fork design used by 90 per cent of the world’s motorcycles, Motoinno’s

TS³ technology has been shown to:
- Increase stability and predictability
- Reduce stress and shock loads by shortening the path from the wheel to the chassis
- Eliminate potentially destructive oscillation harmonics
- Improve safety
- Possess a proven higher turn rate for less lean
- Deliver a safer and more stable cornering and braking experience
- Eliminate horizontal and lateral flex while braking
- Remove the unpredictable and dangerous flexibility in steering
- Deliver adjustable dive/anti-dive and take and trail capabilities. The TS³ technology enables a higher turn rate with less lean and by improving stability and safety, the TS³ racing motorcycle will lap faster than a comparable tele-forked motorcycle. Importantly, Motoinno’s TS³ design retains the shape and appearance of a traditional motorcycle, while delivering the ultimate riding performance and experience.

ONWARD AND UPWARD!

KARTING SALLENT BARCELONA

Surprisingly, the local kart tracks are often used for a "shake-down”.
So off we went, along with AGR crew chief/electronics specialist, Luis Borras who flew in from his home in Majorca and rider Alex Millan, up from Valencia. Thank you both!

It was a tough day in the office for Guy, under the hammer from Crew Chief Luis, experimenting with changes to pretty much everything as he hurried, in the limited time he could afford, to come to terms with the TS³ tech.

It was a valuable 2 day shake-down that’s for sure, as we dealt with a few minor issues that would have taken up valuable time at Aragon, and from that outing, we got clearer on what components and setup we needed to prepare for Aragon.

If ever we could have been prepared for Aragon! :-)

MOTORLAND ARAGON 2-3 OCTOBER

Thanks to Anscari Nadal and his AGR crew Luis Borras (AGR electronics/crew chief), mechanics Diego Aspar and David Plans. Thanks so much you guys, you were incredible!!

Playing with the ‘big kids’ we found out a lot about our bike!

We’ve always known it was ‘over-engineered’. It had to be at this stage. It’s a ‘prototype that we didn’t want to break. And although we’d weighed it back home we never imagined how heavy it was against the Kalex. ‘Quite a bit’ is all I’ll say for now. :-/ But we now know it can be made lighter while still retaining its strength.

And the old FTR fairing is very aero UNfriendly – at speed. It’s 12kph slower on the straight. And it struggles to turn into the corner under brakes.

However – even with those issues, the bike was less than 2 seconds slower than the AGR Kalex – both ridden by Nicholas Spinelli. (JuniorGP M2) Thanks Nicholas!!

Less than 2 seconds is very encouraging. Incredible really.
If it's 'only' 2 secs, obviously the bike is making up time around the corners – which is exactly what we’ve been saying! More stable, quicker through corners. Once we get it into the corner!

Importantly, AGR are also encouraged, and we reckon we can fix those issues by the end of October.

The push into the corners, we think, is from the very long, heavy, old (but cheap) FTR swing arm. It was always marked for replacement, so we’ll change the swing arm and fairing. That might help the straight-line speed some-what, and hopefully address the turn-in under brakes.

It’s surely not going to be as simple and straight forward as it sounds, so we have work to do, but are committed to losing those seconds ASAP!

Stand by!

Im playing catch-up!!!

Barcelona Spain.
5 September

We made it!

We arrived in Barcelona Friday 5th and it’s been a roller coaster ride since!

Off to a rocky start when Qatar lost the customs Carnet. So the bike crates arrived - but not the carnet. Without it, Customs couldn’t clear the crates, and we couldn’t take delivery of the bike.

Eventually, the duplicate carnet arrived in Barcelona, so another $1,500 and 12 days later we got our hands on the bike.

We fell on our feet here connecting with an incredibly capable, passionate, motorcycle race team owner, Anscari Nadal, who with his AGR Crew Chief Luis Borras, are excited about our project and its potential.

We had no idea until we arrived, the enormous value of his friendship and support. He runs 7 bikes in the European Championship. Manages a crew of 30, numerous riders – his own and others, and a string of valuable sponsorships.

The weekend of 13-15 September we flew to Seville then drove to Jerez to meet the AGR Team at the Jerez round of JuniorGP Moto2. It gave us a great insight to the opportunities and responsibilities to make an impact from here and we are very encouraged and extremely thankful for the incredible support from AGR and the team’s connections.

We have established a workshop in the premises of ASM Motorsport and Anscari’s friend, and ASM (rally) team owner, Alex Sabater and his son Joan (John), have been extraordinary hosts.

The plans we had to test the bike with it’s Motec setup, at a local track, before we did anything to it, flew out the window with the delay in the bike’s arrival. Anscari is pushing to track test at the official championship testing at Motorland Aragon on 2-3 October, so with limited time available to prepare for ‘official’ testing, the decision was made to move now on the required conversion. We have to swap out the Motec electronics and the 765RS street-triple engine that’s served us so well for the past year of testing, for the previously purchased Externpro Moto2 engine, and install the official newly purchased Mectronik electronics.

Before the Aragon testing, we did a 'shake down' at one of the many Kart tracks around Barcelona. They are tight-as, but often used by the race teams for shake down. See next post!

Exciting Development!
When we left Sydney Motor Sport Park on 17 December last year, the Motoinno Moto2 bike was lapping at 1min 41s – a long way off the pace of what we’d hoped for. From that outing we had a list of things to work on and over the Christmas period we made changes to the ride height, the balance of the bike and also its front-end geometry.

Coming back to SMSP this last weekend 9-11 February, we were testing the changes under a new international race rider. “There’s no point going to Spain”, he said “unless you’re doing 1m 32’s” – we were a long way off doing that.

With the changes we’d made over Christmas and on day one at the track, by Friday afternoon the bike was clocked at 1m 33.6secs. A remarkable development, and also interesting, that the winner of the Friday night SuperSport 600 race also turned in a 1m 33.6 that night.

On Saturday morning a time of 1min 33.4secs was recorded. We had dropped 8 seconds in 2 days of testing; a very encouraging result.

We are very buoyed by these results that are effectively 1.4secs off the pace, and as there is still SO much we can work on, we feel there are several seconds of improvement that are well within our reach back at SMSP, in the near future.

Our Story

The ‘motoinnoTS3’ technology is a patented totally new and unique front end steering and suspension system which addresses the limitations identified in all previous incarnations of tele-forked and alternate steering systems. With a higher turn rate for less lean, the technology behaves like no other, providing the rider with an astonishingly predictable, more stable and therefore safer, platform. Not surprisingly, because it’s a more predictable, more stable and safer platform, the race pilot can ride it faster. Much faster.* In track testing the TS3 was many tenths of a second a corner faster than a Suzuki GSX750R with the same rider. Motorcycle Innovation will commercialise the TS3 technology via 3 strands: 1. The sale of licences for the IP to major motorcycle manufacturers and motorcycle race teams. 2. The development of the ‘motoinno’ brand which will produce limited numbers of exclusive bespoke high-end motorcycles. Made of carbon fibre and titanium the Motoinno Shockwave will be based initially on the Ducati Monster Testastretta 11° DS engine, these Ferrari quality motorcycles will weigh approx. 110kgs and sell for around $US200,000. 3. Motoinno branding; merchandise and equipment.
