In 2011, the comic actor Rowan Atkinson was responsible for the largest vehicle repair claim in British history!
Whilst out driving his prized Mclaren F1 sports car, Atkinson hit a slippery patch, lost control and ended up hitting a tree.
The result was a £910,000 repair bill for a car which Atkinson paid £640,000 for in 1997 - making the bill three times bigger than the most expensive repair claim previously documented, a £300,000 claim paid by Aviva to fix a crashed Pagani Zonda in 2010.

Did you know that more than 40 agricultural workers die each year with about 85% of those occurring on farms according to Safe Work Australia. Seven out of 10 fatalities involve plant, machinery and vehicles.

Safe Work Australia hace named the agricultural sector one of the seven priority areas for dealing with workplace health and safety risks.

Quad bikes are just one part of the rural workplace equation. Chances are you have more than one type of machinery or types of equipment that is used such as harvesters, balers and planters, cultivators, and grain augers.
What about powered mobile plant such as front-end loaders, mowers and tractors?
Each of these pieces of machinery comes with a whole raft of complex risks from those operating the machinery or the maintenance of the machinery to accidents when reversing, loading or unloading. But you must consider safety when they aren't being used. Process must be in place to make sure that the equipment is parked, shutdown and in a safe state to stop anyone accidentally or unauthorised using it. Machinery must be labeled when it needs repairing to keep it out of service until maintenance has been carried out.

Last October new Australian Safety Standards came into force for new and imported Quad bikes and from October 2021, new rules will apply. All new and secondhand imported utility quad bikes should have minimum stability levels and and an operator protection device (such as roll- over protection). These changes came from a 2019 court case that saw a farmer ordered to pay $400,000 compensation to someone injured on the farm while riding the farmer's quad bike.

This safety standard applies to all quad bikes from 11 October 2020 with additional requirements for general use quad bikes from 11 October 2021. The standard does not apply to second-hand quad bikes other than those imported into Australia.
