💧 AUDI A3 COOLING SYSTEM RESCUE 💧

This Audi A3 arrived with a severely contaminated cooling system. Evidence suggested the system had likely been topped up with tap water at some stage rather than the correct coolant mixture.

Unfortunately, tap water can cause a range of issues inside modern cooling systems. The minerals found in water can create deposits throughout the radiator and engine passages, promote corrosion, reduce cooling performance, and shorten the life of important components.

After carrying out a comprehensive cooling system flush, we removed and inspected the thermostat housing. Given the known failure rate of these plastic housings on Audi vehicles, we recommended replacement while access was available rather than waiting for it to fail and potentially leave the owner stranded.

This is where experience matters.

Modern Audi and Volkswagen cooling systems are complex, and proper diagnosis requires more than simply replacing parts. Understanding common failure points, correct coolant specifications, repair procedures, and preventative maintenance strategies helps avoid repeat failures and unnecessary costs.

Not every turbo failure is “just replace the turbo and send it.”

This Bentley Continental GT 4.0L Twin Turbo came in after catastrophic turbocharger failure — and the damage didn’t stop at the turbos themselves. Metal contamination travelled throughout the intake system, intercoolers, pipework and engine components.

🚗 Kia Rio Vibrations & Clutch Slipping? We Found The Real Cause.

At Combined Automotive Services, Milton, this Kia Rio came in with a clear customer concern:

❗ Severe vibration through take-off
❗ Clutch slipping under load
❗ Poor pedal feel and inconsistent engagement

After carrying out a full driveline inspection, the fault was immediately evident once the transmission was removed.

The release fork pivot bush had completely deteriorated, leaving excessive movement in the clutch fork assembly. This causes poor release bearing alignment, inconsistent clutch operation, harsh vibration and accelerated clutch wear.

The clutch itself had also reached the end of its service life, with clear heat marks, glazing, and worn friction material visible across the pressure plate and disc.

🔧 Expert Repair Process

Our technicians carried out a complete clutch and driveline rectification, including:

✅ Removed transmission assembly
✅ Replaced failed release fork pivot and inspected clutch fork geometry
✅ Installed new clutch kit
✅ Replaced release bearing
✅ Machined / renewed flywheel surface as required
✅ Reassembled and torque-set to manufacturer specifications

This wheel decided to roll… just not in a straight line 😅

No customer complaint, but during our service road test the team picked up a vibration straight away — because yeah… we’re professionals like that. A quick check later and here it is, doing its best impression of a wonky shopping trolley wheel 🛒

Left unchecked, a buckled wheel like this can snowball into all sorts of fun (read: expensive) problems — warped brake discs, suspension wear, alignment issues and uneven tyre wear.

Good news? We sorted it on the spot. Replaced the wheel and transferred the tyre using our specialised tyre equipment. No dramas, no shortcuts.
