Towing with EVs: What You Need to Know ⚡️
Electric vehicles are changing the game, but when it comes to towing, there are a few key things you should know before hitching up. 👇
1️⃣ Towing Affects Your Range
EVs use more power when towing, just like fuel cars use more fuel. Expect range to drop anywhere from 20–50% depending on your load, terrain, and driving style.
2️⃣ Not All EVs Are Rated to Tow
Some EVs aren’t certified for towing at all. Always check your owner's manual or contact the manufacturer for your exact towing capacity.
3️⃣ Weight Matters Even More
EVs are already heavy, add a trailer or caravan, and you’re pushing the limits of GVM and GCM quickly. Pack smart, tow lighter.
4️⃣ Cooling Systems Are Critical
Towing can push battery and motor temps higher. If your EV has active cooling (most do), it’ll help, but always monitor system warnings, especially on long climbs or hot days.
5️⃣ Towbar Compatibility is Different
Rear sensors, battery locations, and underbody clearance are often tighter on EVs. That’s why TowRite designs towbars specifically for each vehicle for a safe, precise fit every time.
