Today an Amarok was booked for a service and to inspect an oil leak that had been identified as a rear main seal leaking, a very costly repair BTW.
On inspection yes oil was leaking from the rear of the engine but I was not convinced it was a rear main seal, so I decided to investigate.
First stop was to remove the air cleaner box top and flexible intake air tube so I was able to see into the intake air track, and as you can see by the pics, oil. Oil pooled in the manifold eventually finds its way out and causes a leak that can be easily miss-diagnosed.
“Catch cans” don’t just stop excessive carbon deposits and build up but also oil leaking from areas of the engine that are not designed to control excessive oil pooling.

Watch out for those pesky rats and mice peeps, they’ll cost you a fortune, it’s that time of year those rodents are looking to nest.
Over the years I’ve seen and repaired much damage caused by rats and mice chewing wires and other expensive components. Unfortunately there is no sold solution, but these tips might help you avoid costly repairs.

Don’t feed your pets near where you park your car, left overs only attract rodents.
Don’t put rat bait under your bonnet or any where in your vehicle, it only attracts them.
If your unable to garage your vehicle and you have a problem, then put your bonnet up as this lets the warmth of the engine out.
Use an ultrasonic rat deterrent if possible, they’re cheap on eBay.
