Not every programming job requires a trip to the dealership.

Modern vehicles are packed with electronic control units that need to be correctly programmed and configured before they will operate as intended. Simply fitting a new module is often only part of the job.

Using factory-level diagnostic and programming equipment, we programmed the new SRS airbag module into this Audi and carried out the required system checks.

As vehicles become more advanced, having access to the right tools and information is just as important as having the right spanners.

Whether it's fault diagnosis, module programming, coding or electronic repairs, modern vehicles often need more than just mechanical expertise.

"Can I just keep topping up the oil?"

We were asked this while working on a Ford Ranger 3.2L that had an oil leak from the timing case area.

The short answer is yes... but only for a very short time.

Topping up the oil helps maintain the correct oil level, but it doesn't stop the leak. Every kilometre driven gives that leak more time to spread oil around the engine.

What starts as a few drops on the driveway can turn into a much larger mess under the bonnet.

For drivers doing school runs, towing a caravan, or carrying tools around, oil leaks are something worth fixing properly rather than managing.

The first step is finding exactly where the oil is coming from.

That's why we carry out proper inspections using the correct diagnostic process before recommending repairs.

If you're adding oil between services, it's worth getting the leak checked.

💨 DPF Problems? The DPF Isn't Always the Problem...

This LDV G10 came to us with ongoing DPF concerns that had proven difficult to resolve.

Over time, numerous parts had been replaced in an attempt to fix the issue — including a brand new genuine DPF 😬

Unfortunately, the problems persisted.

Following our structured DPF assessment process, we worked through the vehicle systematically, analysing live data, system operation, and the conditions required for successful regeneration.

The result?

The root cause was traced back to a fault within the intake system.

Without addressing the underlying issue, no amount of DPF replacements or forced regenerations would have permanently resolved the problem.

🔍 When Multiple Faults Have One Cause

This Volkswagen Passat arrived with a long list of concerns:

👉 Electronic park brake faults
👉 ABS faults
👉 Tyre pressure monitoring faults
👉 Traction control faults

With multiple systems affected, it would have been easy to start replacing parts. Instead, we followed a structured diagnostic process, utilising manufacturer wiring diagrams, technical information, and a thorough understanding of how these systems communicate with each other.

The culprit? A leaking windscreen.

Water had found its way into the A-pillar and onto an electrical connector, causing corrosion and communication issues between multiple control systems.

The repair involved resealing the windscreen and repairing the damaged wiring. As replacement connectors were no longer available from the manufacturer, a high-quality waterproof Deutsch connector was installed to provide a reliable long-term solution.

This is a great example of why modern vehicle diagnostics requires more than a scan tool. Having access to the correct information, wiring diagrams, testing equipment, and a methodical process is what leads to the right repair the first time.

⛽ Fuel Efficiency Tip #3 – Filters & Airflow

This photo shows a perfect example of how something as simple as a dirty filter can affect fuel efficiency.

Modern engines rely on clean, unrestricted airflow to operate efficiently. When filters become contaminated:
👉 Airflow is reduced
👉 Combustion efficiency drops
👉 The engine works harder
👉 Fuel consumption increases

As part of our servicing process, we don’t just replace filters — we also inspect and clean components like the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, which helps provide the engine management system with accurate airflow information for maximum efficiency and drivability.

Small maintenance items can make a noticeable difference over time — especially with today’s fuel prices.
